Given our history, can we improve our coaching situation over Beamer? Or will we be doing the same thing in five years if we fire Beamer? ***********

Can we improve over Beamer? Theoretically, yes. In reality, probably not. We can fire Beamer, but we will almost certainly be looking for another coach in 5-6 years. That's a virtual guarantee.

As others have noted, I'm not sure there's a good option. I think there was a good option when Franklin was on the market last season. We'd at least be a bowl team every year with Franklin. But now the options are:
A) Retain Beamer a little longer, save some money and roll the dice things turn around.

B) Cough $20+ million to fire him, plus the cost of his staff and roll the dice on a new coach who almost certainly end up being replaced in 5-6 years.

Either way, you're rolling the dice. Do you spend $50 million and roll the dice (estimate to fire Beamer and staff and hire new coach) or save your money and roll the dice?

If history is any guide, here is what happens if we fire Beamer:

Year 1: 5-7. Excitement is off the charts preseason. Beat the cupcake in the first game. Excitement gets even higher. Then, SEC play starts and a losing record ensues. Everyone shrugs it off "It's his first year. he need at least three years to get his players and his system in. Beamer left the program in shambles, it is a complete rebuild".
Year 2: 7-5 record, fans are ecstatic, new coach is turning things around, new assts are so much better than the old staff. The future is super bright.
Year 3: 6-6 record. It's OK, we had injuries at key positions. New coach needs to fire the pick one (OC/DC/OL/RB/DB/DL coach). Recruiting is going great, portal pickups are all going to be stars. Next season is going to be special.
Year 4: This is the 8 or 9 win season. See, the new coach is great. We will be contending for the SEC championship and will definitely be in the playoff next season. Preseason passion is white hot. New coach gets HUGE raise and long extension. We have to keep this guy!
Year 5: 4-8. Coach is still good, we just had some bad calls by the refs and were one play a away from 9 or 10 wins. It's time to fire another of the OC/DC/OL/DL/RB/WR/DB coaches.
Year 6: 6-6. Worst coach ever, fire him today.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's a proven formula at this point.

I would keep Beams and take the 20 million to purchase a basketball or baseball team so we can be good at something on the mens side.

Been watching this same scenario for 50 years. Outside of the 3 years where the moon and stars lined up for Spurrier.

It was 18 who gave me this idea when we were discussing the OL. I had concerns about 5 new starters, completely rebuilding an OL in one year.

His answer, how could it be any worse?

I put that thinking to the Beamer dilemma. How could it be worse?

We have a career position coach who cant manage the clock, call critical timeouts, etc. He celebrates at halftime and blows huge leads.

Seriously, any G5 coach could probably do better.

I think the better alternative to firing Beamer is upgrading our defensive staff, starting with Clayton white and then the LB coach. I realize this is not a popular idea, as many want Beamer gone and feel Clayton White has done a good job. I believe if we can upgrade at DC, the team will be better. After 5 years we finally have a high caliber offensive staff, with the exception of Mike Furrey. I think it would be a shame to see these three great offensive coaches leave, especially when you consider how bad Muschamp struggled with this offense prior to Beamer. Beamer is a likeable person and runs a clean program, rather than starting all over again, why not just upgrade the defense. I have noticed some arguing what kind of DC can be hired if the coach is on the hotseat. My response to that a great one can be hired with the appropriate contract, secondly once the team improves, Beamer would no longer be on the hotseat.

how in the h#ll can we not improve over Beamer? Was SOS or Holtz an improvement over Beamer? You might not be old enough to know....but Joe Morrison was too. There are LOADS of proven and on the edge of busting out as top coaching prospects all around the country. Just because our admin. married a plain jane don't mean a model ain't around the corner.

It would not be fair to say the current administration is married to Beamer, as this AD did not hire him. I also theorize this AD played a role in the dismissal of two abysmal assistants(Shula and Teasley) during the season last year. Furthermore Donati is not the one who gave Beamer and Parris this ridiculous and unwarranted buyouts. I am also going to make a prediction, if Beamer is retained, I am expecting more staff changes, to include Clayton White, along with perhaps a LB coach and Mile Furrey needs to be shown the door as well.
