Honestly, I have no idea what your point is.
No one ever does.

Early 50s here. The 20 somethings at my job are all hooking up, shacking up and having kids. Many are just doing it without getting married, at least for awhile.

Traditionalist here. Went through a lot of a-- in college but prefer having a woman that sticks around than a woman for the night.

This is an existential problem for our country/civilization and it's reflected in our birth rates. I've read a lot about this and its hard to pinpoint what is responsible. I think it is tied to quite a few factors that have produced this:

  • Women are now more educated then men and for all the talk about equality, it is an absolute FACT that women do not care to "marry down" as in a man less educated earning a lower salary. The pool of "acceptable" men has therefore dwindled.
  • Naturally this would be an outgrowth of feminist culture, "You don't need a man, you can just work at citibank and take care of yourself"
  • Isolated men, playing the victim card and languishing at home and lacking ambition and adventure.
  • An economy that makes marriage seem less and less attainable, steady income, housing affordability, etc.
  • Social media and dating apps have produced a culture of young people that don't really know how to interact interpersonally or date. Young people aren't even having sex anymore.
  • Politically, women and men have never been so far apart, I have to think that contributes.
I'm sure there are many more reasons.
The country is full of fatties and even a lot of fatties don't want to marry another fatty, so they stay home and watch porn with beautiful women and rub one out instead. Then throw in no fault divorces and a lot of folks don't think marriage is worth the risk.

If you’re left, before all else, explain your stance on USA socialism.
1 You need to actually understand what socialism is.
2. You need to agree to abolish public schools, public university, public parks, public roads, social security, public libraries, and most importantly - agree that 5 (or maybe 6) states should not keep paying more to federal government, while the majority of other states get more than they give to the Federal Government. Because that is also a social program that so many take advantage of.
3. When you actually understand how much the USA relies on social programs, then you and I can have a decent conversation. Until then, you are just one of the mindless sheeple...

I will get around to reading the article but I would say "Women are batsh*t crazy and liberal women even more so."

You have no idea the joy it brought to my face when my son who was living with my ex-wife said to me one day, "You had to be either madly in love with her or insane to marry and live with her." I said, "Unfortunately both."

And then there's this:

1. Lesbian couples experience higher divorce and dissolution rates—accounting for roughly 70% to 72% of all same-sex divorces and showing roughly 2x to 3x higher relative dissolution risks compared to gay male couples. Over a 10-year period, female same-sex divorce risk is measured around 40.1% compared to 21% for opposite-sex couples.
1. Gay male couples exhibit lower divorce rates (around 24% over a 10-year period), often associated with higher combined median incomes and delayed marriage timing.

I'm not pushing some sort of pro-gay thing, just pointing out that even women find it hard to be married to women.

Small sample size but I'd agree with all items/numbers from friends/co-workers etc. that I know.

I've read that too and it's pretty fascinating. First I read that most of the initiators of divorce in male-female marriages are female, implication being that men are harder to live with. Then I saw the stats you posted and it turns out that the more females in a marriage, the more divorce.

I wonder if part of the problem might be that feminism has given women so much freedom and choice that it's hard for them to deal with it. Freedom is a good thing in general but too much of it can have negative effects.

A man can't have kids so the default is, get a good job to make money so a female will marry you and have your kids. (Or it was before men became dysfunctional recently).

But women can have kids so their choice runs from (a) total trad wife, staying home, having kids, taking care of the house, to (b) climbing to the top of the corporate ladder while foregoing kids, but that means you don't have kids, to (c) climbing the corporate ladder and having kids, which is hard because there are only so many hours in the day.

And if you do those latter two you run into the problem of making more money than a lot of guys, which means you don't want to marry them.

It's just too much and that makes it hard to choose. It's like in the olden days when you'd go to the video store to pick out a movie and end up there for an hour because it's hard to choose because you have so many options.

I'm older now so I can look at my parents as people instead of just Mom and Dad. And when I do, I see that neither of them would be considered a big prize in today's dating market. And yet they got together and had a great life and made each other extremely happy. Shared values and goals count a lot more in marital happiness than does money or status or looks.

I blame the internet. Back in the day, fat girls were nice because they had to be, and the hot girls were bitchy. Now the internet has convinced fat girls that they’re hot, so they’re all bitchy.😁

the most important thing imo is start together with zero and build together. Moms and I got married at 23 yo and didn’t have schit. After 100 years of marriage we‘re flush and happy. Our kids are A+

It's not the only factor involved, but one of the issues at play is the long-term secularization of the culture. Marriage and birthrates tend to follow inversely with that.
