Now the double-talking geniuses on the board are telling us PSU's NIL budget is not competitive with top of b1g/FBS.... making MC's job impossible.

But Franklin was in the same position relative to the top-spenders and clearly punched well-above his NIL budget ranking in terms of roster talent and average annual results. How does this work when one of Franklin's main beefs was an underfunded NIL budget relative to FBS's top decile spenders???

“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me … They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. The NIL landscape changes dramatically year-to-year around college football. You really can’t compare this year versus last year or the year before. We are upper mid-level this year for the conference with some of our peers really getting their programs up and running, but next year looks better. We are going to be a very large spender in the transfer portal. The whole system sucks. Hopefully the college sports act passes this year. That will level the playing field.

We were told Campbell would have lots of NIL money to spend this year.

Krafty indicated $30m, which was a lot in 2025, but not so much in 2026 when other schools are pushing $40m and beyond. Tough to afford really good qbs, edge, WRs and OTs on that budget. I am praying for the damn college sports act to pass. I’m also wondering what the hell is taking Kraft so long in landing a jersey patch deal. Consider considering what other schools have done, I think we could certainly land a deal in the $15m range at minimum. And yes, a portion of that gets funneled to rev share.

Franklin was trending in the wrong direction. He has his best teams when NIL wasn't a factor.

We have also been told by the insiders that they will raise the spending next year to be competitive with Ohio State and Oregon.

We have been lied to by everyone.

Where is the money coming from to spend in the transfer portal?

No matter. Premier 5 stars and portal players will come to PSU because we have luxury boxes and they'll get coached up.

NIL didn't become a factor until the last 1.25 years of Franklin's career at PSU. During his last 0.25 career year at PSU he spent $1.0 million on a WR who happened to be the brother of his ex-QB.

I'm putting you ignore because I no longer want to deal with your ranting idiocy.

Franklin had the budget
MC will as well
Nothing has changed other than how this team had to be built

I’m sure Ohio state will be penalized for this in 2042
True, or maybe they’ll just go after directional schools. Or they’ll find some country bumpkin corrupt judge down south to rule that the regulation of all of this is unconstitutional.

I know we suck. I’m just not sure why. Probably all possible reasons are applicable.

😞
Probably because Barry Fenchak is banned from BOT meetings. Barry would have saved everything because of his calm demeanor and his solid, sound state of mind.

What is your source for your claim that Franklin paid a million dollars on Liam Clifford? Figment of your imagination and Franklin Derangement Syndrome don’t count.

Penn State’s NIL budget is 7th in the Big and not close to OSU and Oregon in particular. My God Oregon loses Dante Moore a future 1st round draft pick due to a cheap shot by a USC player and they replaced him with Rialo, a former top QB who started 2 years at Nebraska. Please stop.

We are going to have to find a way to either compete without it, or find the donors who will spend. Complaining about it, as we have all done for years now, doesn't work: We know that for certain.

You keep saying this and you're wrong
You're relying on a report by the Athletic that they acknowledge isn't factual

So how much is Penn State’s NIL budget oh wise one? How does it compare to OSU and Oregon’s budget?
The budget is comparable to anyone else in the Big Ten including those teams
Last year we spent that. This year we didn't...you don't spend NIL money just to spend it--you spend it on players worth it
It's honestly laughable that you believe Allar, Singleton, Kayton, etc all came back cheap. McAfee and Herbie have addressed this.
Hell, Franklin acknowledged it before the start of last year
It's comical that people want to believe we aren't spending money--it's like they're still trying to make us out to be "success with honor" and we don't have to spend because we're above that.

I actually hope that PSU is dead last in the Big Ten in NIL spending. It's dirty business. Play with real student athletes. Success with honor.

There is a third option- fade into obscurity, ala Nebraska. I think that's most likely.

Speaking of comical, you never answered my question because you have no idea (call me shocked). Checked on line and official financial information released by the university reported that slightly more than 13.3 million in NIL money was allocated to the football program in 2024-2025. The article said that figure was not representative of the 2025-2026 budget which was expected to be approximately 30 million. Two conclusions can be drawn: (1) Penn State gave far more NIL money to Campbell than Franklin and (2) Penn State isn’t spending 45 to 50 million like OSU and Oregon.
