Came across this, cruisin' through YouTube. Anyone remember #61 Mike Reilly? I was 11 years old then and didn't watch much football, unless it was dad's Bears, and I had the attention span of a squirrel.

Sure do, he was the voice of the Hawkeyes along with Ron Gonder on WMT Radio for quite a while. I think Ron called him Charlie Football, lol. Very distinct, husky voice, I enjoyed hearing it again!
Mike played in the NFL per wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Reilly_(1960s_linebacker)
IIRC his son Jim played for Hayden in the late 1980s or so.
Gonder called him Son Jim, the Chinese linebacker.
Upon further review ... my mental replay booth has phoned down to say the nickname was actually Charlie Linebacker.
A little reading revealed he was a two-way player at Iowa, he also played offensive guard. Kinda crazy. Here's a pretty cool pic of Mike. Although MN was a little down that year, that was still, I imagine, a pretty good win against them in their "glory years."
Old Bing. Remember when Bob Hope did these in the 80s.
Back in the mid 80s, some Iowa games that weren't on live TV were viewable on delayed TV at 11:00 pm. Mike Reilly did the color and would constantly refer to Jim Reilly as "son Jim" every time Jim made a play. It was annoying. After the first few times we all got it and didn't need to be reminded that Jim was his son.
Side note: Sometimes we avoided the TV for the entire day and watched the delay as if it were live.

I did that only once, in 1983. The Hawks lost pretty badly at Illinois. Never tried that again.
It's not a big deal, I just thought I read it in Voice of The Hawkeyes way back when.
I used to so look forward to that being delivered.
Yes! That and Hawkeye Reporting Notebook (HRN). The youngsters would consider those pre-internet days to be the stone age for sports fans. We appreciated every scrap of Hawkeye info we could get, especially if we lived out of state.
Yep, he and Gonder were my favorite radio team. Could get WMT in Chicago area under the right conditions, which was how I first heard them.
I still have the edition I received after the death of CMS40. Sort of a "do I keep it, or...?" Actually going to toss it after our recent move from Orlando to Raleigh. It actually broke my heart when packing it. Nobody needs that level of grief after 33+ years.

The 1965 Playboy Pre-Season All-America Football Team featured a lineup of historic legends, written and selected by Anson Mount for the magazine's annual "Pigskin Preview". Curiously, the legendary USC halfback and eventual Heisman winner Mike Garrett mistakenly posed with the defensive platoon rather than the offense during the famous team photo shoot. [1, 2, 3]
