The Biggest Difference between Rutgers and Indiana is NIL

Freeman, Chesney, and other bright charismatic coaches were given the support to succeed. Chesny in particular was able to turn things around quickly because he had lots of NIL support. We are currently struggling because we lack same.
How much financial support did Joe Harasymiak get at Umass this year AL? Answer: less than 1/10th of what Greg got. Yet UMass, out recruited, out played, and out coached our players and bloated staff of 120 on the payroll. Pee wee coaches (no disrespect) could have formulated the same plan that stymied our players and coaches. If Greg couldnt assemble a $20 million dollar (MINIMUM!) roster to beat UMass in his 7th year of constructing a program, it's on him. Plain and simple.

Indiana football was in the same boat as us pre-Cignetti. They had no donor support. They fired Tom Allen and were able to raise some money to support Cignetti and allow him to bring over some of his JMU players, but that funding was still relatively modest by BIG 10 standards. Then he went 10-2 in his first year and the floodgates opened. This is the model.
No, not the same boat. Indiana fires consistent losers. Indiana isn’t just in the conference for the $

People loved to point out that Rutgers should have been able to beat UMass and Boston College with the support it had. And that is true. But Indiana and USC are a different story, as they are in a much higher weight class, and spent a lot more money in the transfer portal.

More money brings the #1,Transfer class, with better trench play and better quarterback play. Curt Cignetti flat out stated what the difference in the programs was, in his press conference.

“It takes a certain amount of financial commitment to be successful”

IU football coach Curt Cignetti says programs like Rutgers can emulate the Hoosiers' remarkable success, provided all the right pieces are put in place. Right now Rutgers simply cannot match Indiana’s financial commitment.

We thought we would be more competitive in the trenches and at quarterback, but that flatly wasn’t the case, and that a lot of that is due to the quality of transfers:
  • Indiana brought in Josh Hoover, who previously threw for 9,629 yards at TCU, paying him $4M
  • Rutgers brought in Dylan Lonergan who is still acclimating to the Big Ten, while losing Athan Kaliakmanis to the NFL. Ultimately a big step down
  • Joe Bruner a Wisconsin transfer, took an Indiana payday, rather than enter the NFL draft
  • Rutgers brought in OL that haven’t started
  • Rutgers lost Bo Mascoe to Texas and replaced him with a DB that can’t make an open field tackle

Ultimately Indiana brought in seasoned professionals while Rutgers brought in developmental kids, because we didn’t have budget to do otherwise. And that is the biggest difference between the two programs.

The difference between Al and a Rhode scholar is pee brain vs big one
