RIP, Eva Marie Saint, 102

[Tom McAndrew]

Called by some the last star of Hollywood's Golden Age to pass away.

She won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the 1954 On The Waterfront. I believe that was the first movie she was in. She also starred in North by Northwest in 1959.

In addition to North by Northwest, I also liked her in 36 Hours which was based on a short story by Road Dahl,

Yes, 36 Hours is on TCM five or so times a year. Little known, excellent. James Garner and Rod Taylor, who plays the bad guy. I’ll keep an eye out.

Very classy. And married only once, for 65 years, till her husband died in 2016.

She played a minor role very well in Nothing in Common, starring Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason., Gleason's last movie. Her characters always displayed a dignity that seemed to be as much her as her acting.

Underrated movie with some solid actors. The last/most recent thing that I remember seeing her in was an episode or two of Frasier as Roz's mother.
