This was what an AI search of Paul Dietzel's base salary showed when he was first at USC.

When Paul Dietzel signed a 10-year contract to become the head football coach and athletic director at the University of South Carolina in 1966, his base salary was reported to be exceeding $20,000 annually. [1, 2]
Per contemporary reports from The New York Times at the time of his hiring, his official compensation was expected to approach, but not exceed, the salary of the South Carolina Governor. [1]

$20,000 in 1966 is worth approximately $206,777.78 today. if one believes in super intel....
Today = October 2026.

It annoys me watching a video when the announcer states "and that's $xxx in today's dollars." What if I'm watching that video 5 years from now? Better to state something like "and that would be $xxx at the time this video was made, October 2026."
