We get it. We played bad against maybe the best team in the country… that loss doesn’t define our season. It’s just damn pathetic how you act. Most people on here including you, would have loved to be 4-1 right now based on preseason predictions. It goes back to my theory. No matter what Lebby does for some reason we have a segment of our fans who just won’t support him.

True. State needs someone who can mold average defensive players into 5 star players to overcome the screwups on offense.

Arnett is becoming one of the weirdest phenomenon we have ever had regarding this fanbase. It's like you either have to love him or hate him, and there is no in between. Personally I didn't love the news of him coming back, but I am able to look through all that not just blindly love him or hate him.
Overall I have seen some improvement in the defense. Some of this was going to happen no matter what just with having better personnel this year than in years prior. Whitson, Smith, Jones ... there is some talent on the roster. I also think Arnett has done a pretty good job from an eye test standpoint. Guys aren't completely out of position like in past years.
However, anyone that blindly defends him is wrong too. We are 14th in the SEC in total defense with over a third of the season completed. This number could be a little skewed by the level of competition we have played. We may be able to to get better when we play some teams that aren't as good on offense such as Auburn, Vandy and Ole Miss. But as for right now we are 2 spots from the bottom. It's a long season and things can turn around but at this moment I would give him a C or C- grade.

- He's a good DC, he's proven that;
- He's not exactly best suited for a quick strike offense, and that's what we have;
- He showed some questionable decision making in 2023, for certain.
I give him a pass for #3, he was young and impressionable, and our nimrod fanbase was so happy to be rid of the Air Raid he almost had no choice but to oblige them. After that, eh, he'll likely move on this year.
You have horribly unrealistic expectations if you think they can turn around one of the worst defenses in the country in one year
Arnett is the Dan Mullen of defensive coordinators. He can make sub par talent look good against good teams. Against elite teams, we won't have a chance. Obvious statement but Arnett's attacking style lets you have deficiencies in talent and still have a decent defense.
So why couldn’t a good DC get an on field job anywhere except UNLV until we rehired him?
I mean you have to work your way back from setbacks. He made a stupid asss decision during 2023 and he paid for it.
But you can’t watch our team during the time he was DC and say he didn’t do a good job.
Some of that has to do with our offense not matching our defense. And that’s on Lebby.
I notice you didn’t address 2020-2022.
We were 16 out of 16 in 2024 & it wasn't close for 15th, we were 15th last year because UPIG was even worse than us. We are kinda competitive this year which is a tremendous improvement.
He has a guaranteed 1.5 coming from us unless he was to take a full time position then that 1.5 would have been off set. He went work as an analyst with OM in 24, and since he left OM defense has taken steps back. If someone told you that you would make 1.5 just to watch football for two years you would take it.
The UNLV thing was Dan being Dan. Guess some of you all forgot just how hard Dan was to work for. We hired a DC damn near every year he was here. ZA was used to running the defense without HC interference… that’s not how Dan saw it. Plus ZA family was still in Mississippi, vegas is a long way from Starkville. Since he left in the spring he went to work for FSU. I personally think that could pay dividends for us again in the portal once FSU makes a change.
The good thing is your OM defense and Florida's defense are making sure Arnett's is not dead last in the SEC....
