What Team(s) Will Stay Undefeated the Longest this year?
It will be a difficult task for any team to win a state championship undefeated, but the two teams with the best chance seem to be Byron and Wilmington. Wilmington still has a tough regular season test against Coal City.

Loyola at least gets Mt. Carmel at home in the regular season. So, if they can get past that very difficult game, they would enter the playoffs unbeaten and could make a deep run without losing. They may possibly even win 8A without losing a game.

Rochester would likely need to beat Sacred Heart-Griffin twice to make it to the 4A championship game undefeated. At that point Montini or Morris would present formidable obstacles. Morris, itself, should last quite a while in the playoffs without losing, but they are probably third best in 4A.

Lincoln-Way East should finish the regular season unbeaten and could then make a run to the semifinals. Unfortunately, they probably don't have the athletes to win the 8A championship. The same thing can be said about El Paso-Gridley in 2A.

Those are the seven teams that I think have a reasonably good chance of lasting the longest as unbeatens.

Easiest question in a long time.

Wilmington and it’s not close

Closse than you think, Massey currently has the Wilmington/Coal City game as a toss up (CC favored by 1).

1A - Whichever WIVC team emerges from the south will likely be unbeaten going into the title game. The NUIC reps from the north all have already lost at least once.

2A - Wilmington should have a close game against CC. Wilmo has had CC's number for quite a few years now, going back to pre-COVID days, but this CC team is legit. EPG should finish unbeaten in the regular season and will likely give Wilmington a tough game also. There will probably be other unbeatens in 2A, but I'm not ready to trust Maroa or Riverdale yet.

3A - Byron will have to get past an extremely talented IC. SJO will likely be unbeaten on the south side if they can beat Andrew.

4A - Depends on Montini. If Morris can somehow knock them off, I think we will see two unbeatens in the final. I still consider Montini the favorite in the North and at least a toss up overall.

I don't think there is anything close to a sure thing in the lower levels as far as unbeaten champs. I actually think Rochester is most likely, followed by Wilmington, Byron and then either Calhoun or Brown Co. in 1A.
