This is really common amongst all youth activity endeavors it seems - my nieces do competitive dance in Bucks Co and like many travel sports, they have to stay in approved hotels and can only wear ‘official’ gear sold by the dance company/onwers. Gordon Gekko would be proud. This is gross.

I see both sides on this. My understanding Reiss gives a ton of money for youth hockey and feels like he's being used. The mothers likely didn't mean to offend him. Should have likely been handled better.

This is a 10 and under hockey team. There shouldn't be 'tons of money' anywhere around this. If there is, it should be from generous sponsors - not companies looking to make money. A good friend of mine was talking about travel sports and said the team owners get a 30% cut of the hotel rooms when booked. We are dumb.

It's a business, which means get whatever you can and get out. Kids and their parents are doing it to. Set up a company that does managing/social media for the kid. funnel hotels, travel, meals, miles, whatever through it. Huge scam, we all pay for it.

Did you ever play hockey? The cost is insane. My kids played and my godson is now...its absurd.
Do you know how much Crosby donates to youth hockey in Pittsburgh? The Little Penguins is huge in allowing kids a chance many couldn't afford.
I get what you're saying but he's already supporting these people's kids to allow them advantages in playing hockey and in his mind they're taking advantage of that generosity. Think about how you'd feel in his situation as opposed to just hating the rich guy trying to do something positive.
I was heavily involved in youth hockey with my kids and never heard/saw there being a 30% cut on hotels but anything is possible. I don't even see how that would really work but anything is possible I guess
