Did anybody think Matt Campbell could turn us into Iowa State football this quickly?

Guess you dont remember the UCLA and NU games last year or MSU 30 ish years ago.

Did Joe and James have culture or problems fighting hard?
Didn’t our team fight and get back into both of those games and make them go right down to the end to be decided?

you’re a buffoon

Didn't we allow 3-9 UCLA to score over 40 points. Wisconsin and Northwestern already have more wins than UCLA had all of last year when they beat us.
Losing to Wisconsin by a score and Northwestern isn't close to that UCLA loss last year
Next you'll claim we were competitive against Ohio State last year

The overreaction to this whole situation is just absurd. Some want MC to fail so desperately because they think it proves Franklin should have stayed. MC could have gone 0-24 and been fired after 2 seasons and all it proves is the wrong coach was hired.

Not sure why it's tough to root for him. If he fails we'll go have a new coach in 2029...that you can all hate

Try again dip$%!+, nobody is saying Campbell should be fired or rooting against him - Krafty The Clownboy (who acts a lot like you do) is the progenitor of this absurdity (paying-up for less - not just less, absurdly less - after bloviating how your going to show PSU football how to achieve excellence and win championships) and is the party who should be fired..... summarily dismissed. The PSU Administration has some nerve sending out letters that Alumni should provide the financing for this a-hole to burn and piss away including his own multi-million $$$ comp. Absurd.

Read the title of the thread
When did he pay less for more? He paid everything James wanted last year and James failed miserably to deliver
Fire Kraft...100% agree with that...aside from that you're rambling nonsense. What program doesn't send out those letters?

I don't recall any of the infamous 3 losses being blowouts. I also can't recall the last time a PSU team got blown out and pushed around like they have the last 6 quarters. Are we on sanctions?

Don't worry, it's going to be a lot more than 6 QTRs - if you've watched any of USC's games, we are going to get curb-stomped because USC has way better athletes than us across the board. This is the slowest, most unathletic, soft defense I have ever seen at PSU (and I attended my first PSU game in 1972). Our Offense has looked beyond pathetic in our 2 b1g games to-date against middling b1g opponents. These people defending this bs are a complete joke. We're being treated to this bs at a higher expense than last year (both what the coach and roster are being paid). It's just utterly ridiculous and laughable defense of the indefensible as were going to be shown again this week.

They may kill us but that game against Rutgers in particular...

The coaching in the second half of the Wisconsin game and all of the Northwestern game obviously wasn't good. If Campbell isn't able to turn this program around in three seasons, then PSU should move on.

Also, I was a Franklin apologist, often times to my regret, until after the Oregon game last season when I believe that he gave up on the program, and this was in spite of his absolutely poor preseason preparation of that 2025 team. I had nothing to do with his firing and really wouldn't have cared if he had remained coach. However, I think that we saw enough evidence in his 11 and 1/2 seasons as the head coach of what he was going to accomplish at PSU, which was mostly 8 to 10 win seasons and playing in meaningless bowl games and getting a playoff appearance maybe once every 5 seasons, although it probably would have been more with the expanded playoffs.
We would have made the playoffs 6 times out of his 12 years at PSU in this new format. I think you are being dishonest by saying he would maybe get there once out of every 5 years. The only evidence I’ve seen is he’s been able to do more with the little resources available to him through much of his tenure. These last few years are really when money for the program and assistant coaches started to increase. I would have liked to see how Franklin would fair given the new playoff format being only 2 years old and an increased NIL budget.

We didn’t get beat down by UCLA like we did against Northwestern. I will give you that I think we gave away the Wisconsin game unless they figured us out because that second half was just one sided. Thankful our defense kept us in that game until it didn’t.

The UCLA loss was infinitely worse than getting blown out by Northwestern because of how bad UCLA was. Northwestern is a good team this year--if they didn't have the schedule from hell I'd say they win 9 games--still might. They were very competitive with Indiana on the road.

PSU was beyond competitive with both Oregon and Indiana last year - so that made us a very good team last year according to your very own arguments. Good grief you excuse-makers have more double-talk......

The UCLA loss was one of worst in Penn state football history. They were 0-3 and got waxed by unlv and New Mexico at home.

I know what happened. Franklin paid off Campbell to sabotage the program. It’s an elaborate ruse by Franklin to get Kraft sh|tcanned and to come back to PSU under a huge contract as coach/AD.

I'm pretty sure you're kidding, but there's a half-serious thread on MGoBoard accusing Whittingham of being a saboteur at the behest of Meyer. Wild times.

When did I say anything about Penn State vs Oregon last year? Franklin wasn't here when we played Indiana last year when we lost at home? What does that have to do with anything.

When did I say we're a "very good team" this year? We're not--I don't know why you're so confused. Did you think a close loss to Indiana made Northwestern a good team--it's the whole resume not one game.

Didn’t we have to travel across the country after a devastating overtime loss to Oregon? Didnt we suffer bad injuries this game and Nicco played like an absolute stud? Then I remember they had some amazing luck and plays bounce their way…it was just a brutal game that we win 95% of the time. Also-look at Singleton that game-he was awful. We win if he alone has a normal game.

Bottom line, if given the opportunity to appropriately input his system with typical Penn State players, Campbell will prove to be an immense upgrade over the previous HC. He’s a really good coach in a really bad spot.

Kraft needs to be let go yesterday for letting his hubris dig our program into an unnecessarily deep hole and not having the foresight to keep as many recruits as possible to set up whomever he hired to be successful. The $$ they’re going to have to shell out in NIL is going to be astronomical if they want to compete in 2027.

Go to Cyclonfanatic.com they have 100 pages of unrestrained joy dedicated to the current state of PSU football and their favorite coach. I guess it isn't just Franklin hate. Here I was told MC was worshiped at ISU.

So, you are saying that with Franklin's players, Campbell will win a National Championship (immense upgrade). I think that's Kraft speak. The lost recruiting class (2026) is devastating but has little or no impact on this season. Note.....the 2027 class is about #20 so not much help coming there either.

Never a guarantee as far as championships go, but given identical rosters and based on each coach’s track records, I’ll take my chances with Campbell over Franklin all day, every day and twice on Saturdays.

Michigan 2018 where they didnt throw a pass in the 2nd half.

Did you forget about that one Mrs Franklin?
For the record jerkoff, i firmly believe that Franklin deserved to be fired and it was absolutely the right decision. What I take issue with was the hiring process coupled with driving off all of our players and thinking an average Iowa State roster and a few Depth Chart DTs could compete in the B1G

Nope. But replacing him with this mess makes sense? 2027 PSU is at Indiana and Oregon. 2028 they have Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana, Iowa and USC. The future is bright.

It definitely didn’t look good seeing as how they put together that staff that week. I remember having to hear the offensive coordinators dad on the broad cast just jumping for joy at how proud he was of him for that win. It also just seemed everything went UCLAs way that day. I’m still stunned at that loss. Agree with you about Northwestern. I think they will be really good but that schedule isn’t helping them.

Many here as in 99% are fully delusional as to where Psu stands in modern football nil era.

Psu is essentially cooked it’s heading towards the lower tier of B10 with Purdue, MSU, Rutgers and Maryland.

if I were Psu I’d strongly push to join ACC, it’ll be the only way to compete long term.

So last year, conservatively, we were top 10 in NIL money spent and now we have none?
Let me guess--you've wanted to join the Big Ten for years
Teams want to leave the ACC for the Big Ten not the other way around. Let's be reasonable for a change.
