Well, we ran all over Missouri you idiot. Florida couldn't. You have a phobia against the run. 2 running plays and you think it's the wishbone.

Missouri is not the type of team we're talking about.

But speaking of them, we should have run less against Missouri. The pass was working. Now we have an injured tailback.

You don't know one dang thing about football.... obviously. The pass was working because we could run, and the run was working because we could pass. That's how modern football works. You are stuck 20-30 years ago.

Lose, if you can’t do both. You don’t seem to get that. This ain’t Madden 2000.
And that's what MSU has done its whole history. Seems you are OK with it. I want to win. And to win those games, we have to have a developed pass game that opens up the run. We are never going to be the type of blue blood team that can assemble a roster that is able to run over the blue bloods. That day is gone, if it ever really even existed.

Here are the most potent SEC offenses of the past 25 years, ranked by S&P. I highlighted the offenses that could fall into that 'non-blue blood' area. Basically, Texas A&M, Tennessee (after they had fell from grace), us and Ole Miss. Passing, opening up the run, is an aspect of all of them. Hell, A&M was running the Air Raid.

Rank Team / season SP+ offense Why it stands out
1 Alabama 2018 50.9 Tua + an absurd collection of NFL skill talent
2 Texas A&M 2013 50.5 Manziel's second-year offense; enormous explosive-play profile
3 Florida 2001 50.1 Grossman/Spurrier; one of the era's great tempo offenses
4 Auburn 2010 49.4 Newton-led offense; elite rushing + explosive passing
5 LSU 2019 48.9 Burrow/Chase/Jefferson; arguably the greatest résumé + efficiency combo
6 Alabama 2019 47.7 Tua, Young, Smith, Jeudy, Harris

7 Tennessee 2022 47.3 Hooker/Hyatt offense; devastating tempo and vertical passing
8 Alabama 2020 46.8 Jones/Smith/Waddle/Harris; historically efficient passing game
9 Auburn 2013 46.8 Marshall/Mason; Malzahn's peak ground game
10 Georgia 2018 45.9 Fromm + elite RB/TE talent; remarkably efficient despite a conservative identity
11 Alabama 2012 45.7 McCarron, Yeldon, Cooper; championship-level efficiency
12 Alabama 2013 45.6 McCarron + Cooper + elite run game
13 Auburn 2014 45.2 Marshall/Mason era continued; still an elite offense
14 Georgia 2013 44.9 Murray, Gurley, Mitchell; excellent efficiency despite injuries
15 Georgia 2012 44.9 Murray/Gurley/Marshall; one of Richt's best offenses

16 Texas A&M 2012 44.7 Manziel's Heisman season; elite efficiency immediately upon entering SEC
17 LSU 2023 44.6 Daniels/Nabers/Thomas; enormous explosive-play ceiling
18 Georgia 2014 44.2 Mason/Chubb/Marshall; dominant run efficiency
19 Florida 2008 43.7 Tebow-led spread; national-title offense

20 Texas A&M 2014 43.6 Hill/Allen-era transition, still elite by SP+
21 Mississippi State 2014 43.2 Prescott-led offense; best season of the Mullen era
22 Ole Miss 2015 43.1 Chad Kelly + explosive passing game
23 Tennessee 2012 42.6 Bray-era passing attack; much better efficiency than its record suggests

24 Tennessee 2001 42.4 Clausen/Donovan-era offense; elite relative to its era
25 Ole Miss 2018 42.1 Matt Corral-era transition offense; very high efficiency despite weak overall team

You don’t want to win Anything except arguments. If you want to win football games you do 50% of you fantasy offense. That’s what the teams that actually win do. You struck out most of the real winners On your list. Thanks for disproving your point. Why weren’t you on here the first four weeks?

I marked out the blue bloods who can amass the talent to run the ball on anybody. We don't have anything in common with them.

If you want to win, that's what you have to do. you have to act like a blue blood. There ain't no magic scheme that will suddenly overcome their advantages, especially now. What you fantasize about doesn't exist in reality.

The problem is that we cannot beat good teams. Kamario Taylor showed that we can stay in the game with a team like that, with the pass game. Unfortunately the 2 TOs early were too much to overcome. Without that, we likely have a chance to win, even with hardly any rush yards. What's so difficult about this for you?

I'm actually giving Lebby credit in this regard. I would prefer a slower paced pass game than his (and obviously less runs), but I'm not arguing with his passing results.
I think this has more to do with your personal disdain for Lebby. You’re carrying this fire Lebby flag upon a hill and willing to die on said hill. Sure you had your followers but those are not following you anymore. So now you invent a new offense and a new scheme to once again show your ignorance and hate for one Jeff Lebby. Why don’t or won’t you give it up. We are having a decent season. Support the program instead of being the little b!tch you are

I’m no Lebby fan either. But even I can admit he’s done a good job so far this year. Still a lot of work to do, particularly in recruiting & developing OL & DL and depth. And yeah it helps he’s got Kamario who was committed before he got here. But he’s safe for another year unless he loses out (other than UT Martin). I think what the bama game showed was if you can’t run the ball you can’t beat the top teams. We need 1 & 24 to get healthy and hopefully get Hill ready to play some in this bye week.

Not about Lebby. If anything I give him credit for giving us a great passing game. Last year too, which is why we were competitive despite talent differences.

Fluff wouldn’t have made a difference Saturday, at least not until later. The TOs are what killed us. Without those, Taylor was throwing well enough to keep us in the game. It would have become a shootout, and I think we’d have probably been able to run later. But as it turned out, we were too far behind and the defense gassed out. Thus - blowout.

See you at the crossroads 85… 85 been 86ed
In fairness, the crossroads is kind of my thing. I must say I agree with you, Mr. 77, in terms of having it be able to do both. A few years ago, I started calling plays at the meager high school level, but I am an o line guy by trade and thought run the ball with short passes. Being in 6A, I see some of these modern odd front defenses designed to shut down both aspects of your offense. And I quickly got my *** handed to me. Both aspects of the offense setting up the other is the correct way of thinking here. Being one dimensional is a death sentence.

Just a thought but use the screen game as a supplement for the run. The screen game mixed in properly can function as the run game in a modern offense. I am sure I am wrong, but just a thought.
Or throw quickly out wide if DBs are playing off. Get guard tackle moving upfield to get to block second layer of defense. That’s similar to a stretch play. We see a lot of DBs playing off some of our WRs respecting our speed. Use that play some, then DCs will walk a safery over or get a little closer to line. Should create more space for middle of field. Take a few shots a there, now you have a good chance of seeing a lighter box and can run the ball. I’d also use more motion to see if you can get a miss match with LB/safety on a WR.

Absolutely. Matter of fact, I think most offenses should start with the screens, if it's there. Easy yardage, assuming your QB has the arm and quickness to get it out there.

We CAN run against good fronts when the numbers dictate it to be the correct play. We did fine against Mizzou and Minnesota.

All our offense does really is the same thing the Air Raid did, just goes about it slightly different…..take what the defense gives. 6-7 in coverage, we’re running. 5 in coverage, RPO, QB reads one player to decide on running vs. passing. 4 or less in coverage, we’re taking the top off or going downfield for chunk gains. Where we do have to put hats on people and run against 6-7 man fronts is in the red zone, because there really is no “box” anymore when the field gets that small.

But other than that, the whole run vs. pass discussion is pointless because Lebby / KT aren’t even committing to either one until seeing the defense. If a D drops 7 in coverage 80 times in a row, we will run the dive 80 times in a row, and probably get 8 yards a carry.

Nobody's dropping 6-7 in coverage for a team that can't throw. That's why you should always lead with that.

We have way too much thought at MSU and in MS high schools that you have to lead with the run in all aspects. We even prefer run-first QBs.

If you ALWAYS lead with something you will be eaten alive by any competent modern defense. You are at least 30 years behind the times. What's it like to be stuck in the 1990s?

Don’t mistake a true dual threat like K1 with a run first QB. K1 is an elite passer and runner

I agree. Was talking more in general. MSU fans love them some running QBs. But the funny thing is, when the team does get some juice, and gets in that 8-4 territory and runs up against the good teams (think 2017 and 2018 with the SECs leading rusher), our fans STILL turn on the QB because he couldn't do the one thing I'm talking about here........pass effectively.

To-date, Dak is the only QB in my lifetime that didn't get booed at some point or have their career ended abruptly. Perhaps KT will be the next. But I don't think it's prudent to wait on that once-in-15-years true dual threat QB to have that 'up' season.
