If I were a big booster I would not waste my $50 million on our team. It's good money after bad, we continue to make the same coaching screwups year after year, decade after decade. I would give it to St Judes instead.

I can't imagine being smart enough to amass a huge fortune and, at the same time, being dumb enough to throw millions of hard earned dollars at a college football program regardless of how good the team was. The ROI is basically nothing.

Let's say someone gives $1M a year to SC football. What, exactly, does that get them? Good seats? I can get good seats on the secondary ticket market for much less. Luxury box access in the stadium? That means I would get food and drink in a private area 7 times a year. Access to the team? Wow, they get to go watch the team practice and meet the coach, players and AD in person. Never mind that the coach, AD and players are meeting with that person out of a sense of obligation to a big donor, they aren't your friend. Your name on a gate, locker room or other physical structure? Other than massaging your ego, that gets you nothing. Almost no one who sees your name will have any idea who you are.

Brad Crawford speculating that the University is leaking that it cannot afford Beamer's buyout so that some donor will step and pay it.

Only hole in that theory is that no such deep-pocketed donor exists for us.

Whatever big donors there are, they are probably still smarting from paying Muschamp to not coach here. I am really hoping SC will be a trendsetter in college football and simply live with the consequences of the AD and BOT making a stupid deal with a coach.

Unfortunately, it's probably our best bet right now.

The offense got fixed this year. Just keep the purse closed, save a few million and hope the D can return to form next year.

Honestly, if you use the past as a guide, we are due for a good season. Next season could be that 8 or 9 win season.

The key is to find the booster who isn't looking for the return, vut is tossing millions at a team because its play money for them.

Who's to say Briles will stay? Would you sign on to another year under Beamer? Or get your contract bought out by a serious team?

Yeah, I raised this concern in another thread. Briles has really done a remarkable job with 180 the offense has performed from last year to this year. If the offense continues to perform, I would not be stunned if other teams come sniffing around at him.

I'd be worried about our OL coach as well. We had one of the worst OL in all of college football last year. We brought in an entirely new crop of players and he has them playing quite well.

The OL guy came with Briles from TCU, right? If Briles goes, id not be shocked at all if they left together.

Yeah, you're right. I'd forgotten about that. Now that you mention it, I recall it being reported at the time that the 2 had worked together a good bit and each had a good feel for the what the other wanted to do.

Butt smooching.

You even get to pick the shade of lipstick they use.

Anyone who has millions, unless they inherited those millions, will never view millions as "play money".

Highly doubt Briles bolts. He's getting $2M and has a good shot at being interim HC if Beamer is let go mid-season (this or next).
You know Briles has HC aspirations like his dad. I'm not insinuating that he becomes our next HC but I wondered if he would possibly get a shot at interim HC if the wheels fell off and that was part of his interest in coming here. Offense is doing its job overall statistically. Donati is high on him too bringing him from TCU.

The offer from elsewhere will come.

And he’ll be gone.
