I don’t understand the love for Nowledge U, they lose Rienk Mast, Young Hoiberg, & that one guy that had Nebraska tattooed on his arm then entered the transfer portal. Mast & Hoiberg made that engine go, I don’t see how they recreate it again to be that high. Guess we will find out

5 CBS writers predicted how the B1G season would play out.

The 5 writers had Iowa finishing anywhere between 8th and 12th.

Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year: Jeremy Fears | PG | Michigan State

Big Ten Freshman of the Year: Nikola Kusturica | SF | UCLA

CBS' Predicted Order of Finish:

1. Illinois
2. Michigan State
3. Michigan
4. UCLA
5. USC
6. Nebraska
7. Ohio State
8. Purdue
9. Indiana
10. IOWA

Breakdown
: Iowa got big boy'd a few too many times during Big Ten play and again in the Elite Eight loss to rival Illinois, so Ben McCollum did something about it. Iowa reeled in 7-3 Saint Mary's transfer Andrew McKeever, who single-handedly can vacuum-clean the glass. That means Iowa can start 6-7, do-it-all wing Tate Sage, 6-8 sniper Cooper Koch and 6-9 dirty-work forward Cam Manyawu next to the second-tallest player in the Big Ten.

That's an enormous team, and that doesn't include a second unit that features talented, skilled bigs like Trey Thompson and Trevin Jirak who wisely stuck around to see the fruits of their labor after a year of seasoning in the McCollum think tank.

Better rebounding, more second-chance points and much-improved rim protection is how Iowa can tweak its game plan to replace the irreplaceable Bennett Stirtz.
The Hawkeyes saved some dough in the backcourt — they're recruiting 5-star Cayden Daughtry, who is worth every penny — so McCollum needs Kael Combs and Illinois State transfer Ty'Reek Coleman to get up to speed quickly with bigger roles.

Plenty of people expect Iowa to be worse this year without Stirtz. I think the added size could make 'em better as long as the guard play isn't a disaster.

Projected starting lineup

Top reserves: G Ty'Reek Coleman, G Isaia Howard, F Trey Thompson, F Trevin Jirak, F Ethan Harris, G Jaidyn Coon

11. Maryland
12. Wisconsin
13. Oregon
14. Minnesota

I would like to think the Hawks finish better than 10th. The BIG is loaded, will be interesting to see where things are after a couple of weeks of conference play.

Based on nothing but my gut (unreliable), I think the B1G is about to realize that Ben McCollum plays on an entirely different level. It's easy to dismiss Iowa but I just heard Coach McCollum point out that the year before Bennett Stirtz, his team won the National Title. Yes, Iowa is probably still "a year away" but this is also (again) the team that no one will want to face in March.

I guess they missed the NCAA tournament last year and don't realize who's coaching Iowa. That poll is more meaningless than a Q-tip against a mugger.

At the beginning, someone slid a chair, making a loud screeching sound and Ben jumped. He said he didn't scare easily, but that...LOL.

That happened to me recently; I actually yelled/screamed. Scared the hell out of me. I asked someone what the hell that was. He said it was a chair screeching against the floor. LOL

@MrsScrew , 16th or 17th place for Rutgers? Wow. I really thought Steve Piekel was gonna turn that program into a winner.

I'm actually not following along this year. Although, Coach Pikiell is undergoing cancer treatment & his assistant has taken over HC duties.

MrScrew & I are retiring in January & moving to NC. Gave up my MBB tickets & this is the last season for football tickets.

We'll be following from afar, go back for a game or 2,

Several teams seem a bit overrated. Michigan has a new coach, lost three bigs to NBA, Cazon transfered and they lost their top freshman.

Huge turnover at Purdue and Nebraska. Not sure if there are any players coming back with the five in five lawsuit though.

Defense transfers on the road, that is why I think the Hawks will be better than projected. Can't argue with the top two though. May be Izzo's swan song.
