Yesyou sure you wanna open this can of worms with me?
Part 1:
The main thing is that what people have to realize is, in 97 NATO began to expand. ‘91 the Soviet Union collapses, the Warsaw Pact comes apart, all these nations become independent nations that were historically part of the Russian Empire. So in Central Asia and Eastern Europe, the thing about Russia is that they're so big that their foreign policy is based on, like any country, defending their borders. Russia has this big geography problem where it's so big and it's got such a great border, and it's situated in such a precarious place where it's difficult to defend these borders. So what its foreign policy is motivated by is finding the best way to defend its borders. So what it has to do in Eastern Europe, to make it quick, is they have to shorten their border with the west. The great European plane is shaped like a funnel and in East Germany it's at its smallest part, and then the further east you go the more it opens up.
So Russia, to defend its western border, it wants to make that border as small as possible. So Russia has to expand westward in order to have a defensible border. The farther east it goes, the moreland there is to defend, the more open flat land that they have to defend, so you know this is why the Russian empire expanded west. This is why the Soviet Union had the warsaw pact and was its furthest westward point was in was in East Germany
So in 91 when the Soviet Union collapsed and all these countries became independent. That's why Putin says it's a geopolitical disaster because now Russia's at its smallest point its population is halved and it loses lots of resources and lots of land.
In 97 NATO begins expanding and it starts moving eastward towards Russia - which is like they're coming at Russia with like a dagger towards the throat of Moscow (geographically). So what happens is they keep moving eastward and you know all the former Warsaw Pact countries go to NATO. Now Russia is very vulnerable. Russia is recovering from the collapse of the Soviet Union and they are trying to piece back together the empire. Their bulwark is Belarus and Ukraine. Ukraine has the Crimea Peninsula which gives them control of the Black Sea. Russia also doesn't have year-round ports where they have access to the sea because their ports freeze so this is one of their only year-round ports, which gives them access to the Eastern Mediterranean, so it's also important for that reason.
Seems strange that big Fred was unaware that S32 weighins operated that way given that the kids had only wrestled in about 8 of them before and also in many, many other PA wrestling tournaments with the same weigh in rules like Tyrant, Waterway, Ultimate Club, etc. Anyone have an idea what spurred this change?Pretty sure after last years tournament, the dad said they would never be back.

2 years ago. Last year they went out to California and Hontz is taking them there again this year.Did they go to your event?
I was very excited for the match, but dang...Don’t know if anyone saw WNO; but, that Paul Kenny and Grey Burnett match was not reassuring… the gap has widen a lot between those two. At one point, Kenny beat him and the script has flipped greatly.
Is Kenny not big enough for 133? Are there any concerns? Sammy Sanchez looked really good…

I think:
2023 freestyle: Kenny 5–3 Burnett (U17 WTT, best of 3)
2023 freestyle: Kenny 7–2 Burnett. (U17 WTT, best of 3)
2025 folkstyle: Burnett 4–2 Kenny (2025 Ironman finals at 126)
2026 freestyle: Burnett 6–1 Kenny (2026 U20/23 WTT)
2026 folkstyle: Burnett 13–1 Kenny (last week)
I expect things can change next year when each wrestler gets in their new environment with new coaches and partners.
I think i herd hes good friends with the Bachmanns so idkSo now that Matt O’Neill is training at KD how much does that hurt our odds of getting him
So now that Matt O’Neill is training at KD how much does that hurt our odds of getting him
I wouldn't think so.So now that Matt O’Neill is training at KD how much does that hurt our odds of getting him
I’m pretty sure that dude was the booking agent for the band, Baboon Ranch back in the day.
You've missed nothing.Sorry if I’ve missed it, but do we know who the main guys are that we’re zeroed in on for 2028? And any late 2027 flip candidates?
I would go after Heeg Sanchez O'Neill Hutcherson Dube Wenrich Solis Tovar you gotta keep adding talentYou've missed nothing.
It's just that we're set for both 2027 and 2028 barring some out-of-nowhere recruit that either has a big jump, or a recruit decommits.
Really hope we heavily recruit the guys you mentioned.I would go after Heeg Sanchez O'Neill Dube Weinrich Solis Tovar you gotta keep adding talent
I added Hutcherson as well I always forget he's a JR he's been around so long it seemsReally hope we heavily recruit the guys you mentioned.
If we don’t get at least 3 of those guys, the gap will continue to widen.
Are there any that we have a good shot with? Or some heavy leans or ties with us ?I added Hutcherson as well I always forget he's a JR he's been around so long it seems
Looking at the list at least 5 have been in town training in the pastAre there any that we have a good shot with? Or some heavy leans or ties with us ?
I would go after Heeg Sanchez O'Neill Hutcherson Dube Wenrich Solis Tovar you gotta keep adding talent
He's a big kid who can wrestle. Still has 2 years of HS and hes been wrestling the big kids at a young age and having success. He's gonna be goodI'm a dumbazz. You're not wrong.
I don't get the love affair for Hutcherson. Definitely want Sanchez.
I go back and forth on my opinion on Hutcherson but tend to agree with you that he's going to be good. He's a big kid who can wrestle. Still has 2 years of HS and hes been wrestling the big kids at a young age and having success. He's gonna be good
He's been 15-16 years old wrestling the 18-19 year olds at upper weights so some losses are expected. His name has been around and talked about for so long people think he should be untouchable. He's still developing and maturing in another year everyone will be saying wow Hutcherson is really good. I have questioned him at times and got caught up in the trap after he takes a loss or 2 as wellI go back and forth on my opinion on Hutcherson but tend to agree with you that he's going to be good.
We are definitely not set for the 2028 classYou've missed nothing.
It's just that we're set for both 2027 and 2028 barring some out-of-nowhere recruit that either has a big jump, or a recruit decommits.
We only have Sea Kenny and Freddy Bachmann for the 2028 class, right? We are definitely not set for the 2028 class
YeahWe only have Sea Kenny and Freddy Bachmann for the 2028 class, right?
no one is set for 2028. Sean Kenny and Freddie are literally the only 2028's committed in the entire class.
Out of all the recruits in 2028, who do we have a best shot with? Or, who do you think we should target that fits our lineup needs and would do good here?i know....wasn't a shot at you brother.
just saying it's wide open and a weird year with the rules changing.
With the unknown of Ludington, Hutcherson would be a must get to compete with Ludington at 197lb and after he is gone. He's been 15-16 years old wrestling the 18-19 year olds at upper weights so some losses are expected. Go watch Hutcherson at Elite 8 Duals a few weeks ago. He dominated and took #1 Carini to the wire in OT. Heeg was a monster at Elite 8 as well.I go back and forth on my opinion on Hutcherson but tend to agree with you that he's going to be good.
O'Neill is not a real fit at PSU and really don't fit their style. He is very very tight with BachmannsSo now that Matt O’Neill is training at KD how much does that hurt our odds of getting him
Ludington was the number one 190 in his class and a top 15 p4p. All he needs is a little development which is like pulling teeth with this staffWith the unknown of Ludington, Hutcherson would be a must get to compete with Ludington at 197lb and after he is gone.
What's the thoughts on the young Mocco? How do we fit him in with his brother at HWT?
If he's looking to start for 5 years he probably doesn't come to Iowa but the family is tight time will tellWith the unknown of Ludington, Hutcherson would be a must get to compete with Ludington at 197lb and after he is gone.
