Kyle,

If Kahlia Hartwell commits, what direction will the basketball staff focus on next? Will they look for a big 3/4 like Sienna Williams or will they bank a scholly and hope to find gold in next year's transfers, such as they did with Lucy, Chit Chat, Dani and Amari? With presumably everyone (but Bria) returning next year (barring transfers), they would have 12 on roster adding Kahlia and Jada and losing Bria?? Any thoughts about this? Thank you.

Not Kyle, I believe they would gladly take a commitment from either Nation or Sienna Williams, Doubt they would take both.

Are we then looking at going back to the triangle offense? I know winning matters but that is not the kind of Iowa basketball I fell in love with.

Do we know it's Hartwell? Could also be anyone else feeling the need to jump on before someone fills a spot. ?? Imagine we know soon.

I think they are in the position of needing depth more than anything. The hard part is knowing the money that will be there year to year, so difficult to know what they might prioritize for freshmen, other than the latitude to wait for the bigger money, if it's all mostly allocated to the current roster.

Too many what-ifs to juggle, so you take whoever commits and go from there.

With Medina gone, they will once again need more depth behind Chat, and ideally someone to take over once Chat is gone. Seems like their '28 HS focus has swayed away from the point guards, so it will be interesting to see when or how they will plan for that. Presumably, they still have CCW for two more years, so there is still a some time for that position.

Do we know that Bria is not coming back? She technically has 2 years of eligibility left.

Wonder if it’s Nation.. likes and comments from Iowa players on her latest Instagram post..

Higher ranking.. could be making a bigger announcement. Told Iowa already.. but planning an announcement on a little bigger scale.

Like your thinking but that would be a big surprise bypassing future visits to ND and UCLA.

Nation Williams will visit her other finalist:
North Carolina Sept 11-13
Duke Sept 18-20
Notre Dame Oct 9-11
UCLA Oct 30-Nov 1

She did take her UNC visit:

She did take her Duke visit (post from 247S Duke board on 9/19/26):
"Bella posted a TikTok last night with Micah and Nation with the caption “my babies are on a campus”"

ND board still expecting a visit yet.
"Nation Williams (power forward) - Scheduled to visit next weekend,"

Don't see an indication that Nation has stopped her visit tour as of yet.

Looked up Sienna Williams to see what I could find.

Last I could find was on 9/21/26.
"2027 WBB prospect Sienna Williams, 6-3 F, Monarch HS (Louisville, CO), has reported an official visit to Nebraska —previous visits: North Carolina, Iowa, Utah —other finalists: Colorado, Michigan"

Couldn't find any buzz about Sienna visiting the last two programs remaining so far. Also didn't find a cancel either.

So on the surface from what I can see on my end, I'd still say it's Hartwell for that IA gif.

Anyone know who the three visitors are for the game tomorrow? The Register of course, is behind a paywall on their story. Just curious.

Hartwell appears to be a very good get for the Hawkeyes but I have questions. Are we comfortable putting a lot of resources into three players (Heiden, Hays, and Hartwell) for the 5 position? Do we have unlimited funds? Can we, or should we have two of these players together on court on a regular basis? I understand the need for size, especially defensively, but I have a fear that we could become a team not in the Hawkeye tradition. Maybe that’s ok, but I hate to see it personally. I guess I’m worrying about something that will workout fine but I always look at recruiting to what I believe should be a priority—shooting.

I kind of doubt there is a plan in place to have 2 5's on the floor at the same time. Ava is the starting 5 for at least the next 2 years. It's a different world today and there's a reasonable possibility that Layla as a rising junior tires of waiting her turn and decides to seek starter minutes at another program. That would leave Hartwell as the only backup at the 5.

NIL definitely changes things, but if we look back at the '22-'23 roster, we had Czinano, O'Grady, Goodman, (and Ediger, Stuelke). However it goes, I imagine things will sort out. What would be difficult, is losing all your depth at the 5.

The goal, one way or another, is to find someone that can step in when Heiden needs rest, and to step up to the level Heiden leaves it when she moves on (presumed after '27-'28, or even after '28-'29). Wonder what the roster might even look like at that point.

*What is great, is how these taller players can practice against one another, and how that can help all of them--because that dynamic is really hard to replicate with the grey squad guys.

There are 4 years of separation between Hartwell and Heiden. A true center recruit is/was the top priority in the ‘27 class IMO, the best use of resources.

I understand that many nationally ranked recruits seek early playing time but it’s a pretty good bet JJ shared, and Hartwell bought into, a vision of development behind a senior All-American.

Who said we put a lot of resources into Hartwell?

Other than Nation, I doubt the 2027 recruits will be paid even six figures in revenue sharing. Maybe $100K, but likely not more than that. Of course, NIL deals might get them a car to drive and all the Mexican food they can eat, on top of their revenue-share payments.
