Busy weekend and haven't had time to rewatch the game. So I'm doing this from memory and feel free to add anyone missed.
Studs:
Kenny Minchey. Couldn't run the football like we wanted and had to put the game on his shoulders and he delivered. Him changing the protection on the last playing and actually showing Baxter who to block showed a level of QB IQ im not sure ive seen here.
Darby: I worried about leaning on him as we get into the thick of SEC play but he's going to be a special player. Took a lot of shots and held on to the ball. Got a key first down on a ball thrown well short of the sticks. Loved how he threw up his hands signaling a TD before Anderson caught the TD pass on a play where he knew he wasn't the target. Shows a level of maturity for a freshman. Just a stud and if he's playing like this as a freshman, I cant wait to see what the future holds.
Nic Anderson: He needed to step up with Miller out and he did. Had a blown block but a pretty clean game. Hopefully this wakes him up.
TE's: All Boyer does is catch TD's and Willie is an NFL player.
Lance Heard: Its crazy how many times I see someone post a block from him on the socials and I just shrug and think...yeah thats just what he does. Oline looked shaky at first but cleaned it up and gave us time to make some plays in the 2nd half.
Will Stein: Yes we celebrate the last play, but his adjustments at half were huge. I see too many coaches married to their style and refuse to change and I love that we have a coach that is willing to take what the other teams gives us.
Defense. I know they didn't look great but with us starting the game thin and the injuries kept coming during the game, I felt like we had several guys step up when called on and made stops when we needed. Cowan and Smith had to play and made in impact. We won the turnover battle and kept one of their studs quiet for most of the game.
USCjr fans: Hats off to them for selling that place out and their reactions after the 2pt conversion added to my joy.
Duds:
Beamer: Sorry coach but that guy is ***. A good gambler knows when to hold them and to fold them, Beamer throws caution to the wind even when its not needed. Several plays in the game left you shaking your head and thanking their coaching staff.
Sellers: I feel for whoever drafts this guy. Lots of athletic ability but likes to get way too cute with the ball. We won the turnover battle and were so close on several others. Nichols could have had two pick 6's if he held onto the ball. Then you add that he is way too inconsistent throwing the ball...just a hype beast.
