Does it make any sense to fire Schiano right now or wait until the end of the season? If you were AD, what is your plan?

Yeah right…. That’s why Hobbs would run down to Schiano’s Office for meetings.
What does that have to do with not wanting him prior to being hired? Of course he partnered with him after the fact since the head of the board was on the side of GS.
11-2 is a great season, come on.
doesn’t mean I don’t think 2.0 has been a failure because it surely has
Great is undefeated or at least a NYD bowl. We finished 3rd in conference. That’s not great. Very good.

You’re missing the point. Cig made the playoffs the year before, 11-2 with transfers and a patchwork roster. Coaching was the driver. Then came the real NIL money and the star roster

Cignetti post-game on Rutgers and Greg:

"I think success starts at the top with a commitment and alignment. From the president to the athletic director, it takes a certain amount of financial commitment to be successful. It doesn't mean you have to be number one or in the top 10 in certain things, but you've got to be competitive, and that's what we've tried to do," said Cignetti. "I think Greg Schiano- what he has done at Rutgers- he's had two great runs; it's a little tougher around this time in the Big Ten. Can it get done? Yeah, I mean, it can get done. Greg is a great football coach."

Greg and Cignetti post-game--"Hey Curt--put in a good word for me in your post game, please."

Current catering deal sends a percentage of gross sales of beverages at SHI and RAC to Rutgers, none to athletics. Let's see if that changes. FYI - I checked LSU and it is the same, the concession money from the athletic venues goes to the university, not the athletics department. But LSU gets a larger cut of venue concession sales than Rutgers.

Last month, Rutgers signed a signage agreement with Valley Bank for football and basketball games. Any guess if this money goes straight to Keli?
Every school gets a much larger cut. I won’t say the figure but it might as well be zero.

Has nothing to do with his background, and did you forget the person Hobbs replaced was eminently qualified having been the #2 or 3 person at Louisville? How did that work out for Rutgers. Pat had experience as acting AD at Seton Hall, and he also had solid political connections to get RU state money for building projects.

He had a good run until he wandered off course with extracurricular activities and was stanchly against NIL, setting Rutgers back several years.

As far as hiring Greg and his extension, that was less his choice and more doing what he was told to do or required to do to keep his job.

Had he been raising NIL and doing his job, he might have been able to put up more of a fight. Had less to do with him being an attorney and more to do with misplaced priorities.
Being an attorney led him to not setting up NIL channels. He flat out told me he was waiting for the NCAA to rule all while other schools were full steam ahead. That’s lawyer strategy. Always mitigate risk.

That was Hobbs, not all lawyers, and that's an insult to risk taking lawyers. He was risk averse except in one area-the one that brought him down. There have been many successful ADs who are attorneys.

Greg has not had the benefit of full alignment under the new President and AD. Give him 2 more years. He had a lot of good answers in his presser last night indicating what is needed to be fixed.

Who are they going to get? No one not even Saban or Urban can win at Rutgers

I'm calling out this nonsense. When has the program ever hired anyone with close to their credentials? Both won FBS National Championships as head coach and was a head coach in the NFL. Some people are pining for Brian Kelly here and he doesn't have those credentials (Division II Championship and Grand Valley State and no NFL Head Coaching experience) while others want him but don't think we can afford him. The problem at RU is that everything is done on the cheap. We keep dreaming of buying a million dollar engagement ring with a Walmart sized wallet. Either Saban or Meyer would get RU at least to the playoffs with a good chance at the title.

This is no longer true. Schiano is 13th in salary in the conference. The school spend supporting it's football team is in the top 5. NIL is a different story but Keli is working on that piece.

Schiano's buyout aside, the school is doing more than what is required to win much bigger.
