Could Matt Rhule rebuild Penn State?

He's not only an alum but I believe a State College guy. No, he's too smart to come home and risk being ravaged by the Jackels. Success is never a guaranteed and being subjected to hate in your hometown would hurt more than elsewhere. He also has a massive contract and buyout. Go on youtube and look at his news conference the Monday after Franklin was fired. He makes it pretty clear how he felt about the way fans treated Frankln and his family.
Problem is with the $ involved and 24 hour social media coverage coaches just don’t get the same grace period they used to in bygone eras. Franklin is gone because the media and the fan base just beat the BGJ narrative to death to the point where it consumed and defined Franklin. I said it a million times, the last 4 so called big game losses tOSU, Oregon, Notre Dame and Oregon if he wins even one of those games he is still here.

Had we beat Oregon in 2026 I'd assume we don't collapse.
Beating Oregon in the CCG then losing to Ohio State in the first round wouldn't have saved him IMO if we lose 3 straight in 2025.

Don't worry. PSU is desperate for wins, but not yet desperate enough to hire Rhule away from the Corn Children
I want to say this kindly. I believe the only reason why some around here continue to look at Rhule as a legitimate coaching candidate to go after is because he played here. That's it. I highly doubt other fanbases at the P4 level—in October 2026—are discussing the possibility of prying him away from Nebraska because he has a very pedestrian track record at Nebraska. If that is the case, then that should say something.
THIS^^^^ , lets see where Nebraska is after this stretch of Indiana, Oregon and Washington and then how they finish against Ohio State and Iowa. The next 3 weeks will tell a lot about Rhule and where he has the Huskers.
Rhule turned the rumor last year into a contract extension.
Someone got played!
What really sucks is that we had a potential win over Oregon last year but someone felt that the RB was down before the fumble. Either way, PSU had every chance to win it.
He has not rebuilt Nebraska by any stretch of the imagination. We kicked the **** out of them last season when we were way down. He has a putrid record versus top 25 competition over the years. He was not the answer either. Looking at mids in the conference I would choose PJ Fleck over Rhule every day of the week.
