Several turnovers on downs. They got stopped multiple times around midfield and probably should've punted more, but it's hard to recommend punting in those situations when you're playing from behind. Wisconsin made them pay for some short fields.

They're definitely missing some pieces on offense.
That was like our PSU game from a few years back.

Let’s be perfectly clear here folks - Fitz is going to have his team prepped and ready for NU to come to town. For him, they could lose every other game and as long as Michigan state beats northwestern…we are going to face the best of whatever he has.

The best of what Fitz has went 3-24 in Evanston in his final three non-COVID seasons. I’m not concerned.

They lost 27-10, and the closest the score got was a 7 point deficit late in the first half. MSU didn’t even score in the second half.
For MSU as a program ND is probably their second biggest rival. NU is not really going to move the needle as much so it’ll be mostly Fitz red lettering this one. Chiles is used to playing in East Lansing as well. And whichever players are there, I suspect they don’t have ill will for him?

I think the MSU fans realize Chiles was not the problem. But when their running back went down, they lost their ability to fight. They are not able to sustain drives and the talent level can’t keep up. But it will be a Fitz team meaning their players will fight hard with discipline against a superior opponent. Let them hang around and it might get close. Im sure Braun, McGarigle, and Kelly will not take them lightly.

I like the match-up but we still need to play lights out. Foot on the pedal.

I sure hope we keep the pedal to the metal and are in the right headspace, e.g. I know Braun has said he feels indebted to Fitz for the opportunity he got at NU, and some of our senior players were Fitz’s.

The Fitz-Aidan Chiles reversals are big storylines in this game, which will have emotions riding high on both sides. Those games are tricky because you just don't know how teams will deal with that. I was a little nervous about all the energy surrounding the opening of NRF on Friday, but our team clearly was able to use those emotions to their advantage. I hope they can do it again against MSU, but they are very different emotions. Plus, if MSU loses to Illinois this coming Saturday, who knows how this will affect their headspace. Will they be giving up on the season already or do they have Northwestern circled as a real chance at getting that first BIG win?

(Now, all of this assumes we take care of business this weekend against Ball State. As an NU fan, I have been beaten down enough to know one can never relax about these games.)

Those years were not the best of what Fitz has. He got fat and arrogant, lost his fire, seemed apathetic especially after his last and final loss against Illannoys. His snark got worse as the years went on. Hope he's humbled, and we'd better take his team (and every team) seriously.

Just saw part of his press briefing. After the usual stuff, he suddenly blurted out, "they just have to friggin play better." Was arguing with the questioners, He's not going to be long there.
