I liked Lou too. He totally lost the team in the end though.Lou still took over a completely dead program and put us back on the map with the two Outback bowl wins. He didn't finish out the way he wanted but we still had a winning record his last season unlike most coaches' last seasons here. The only reason we didn't go to a bowl in 2004 (it would have been a mediocre one) was the fight game at Clemson-my last trip to a game up there.
From a friend connected in the athletic department:
- As of right now there are zero plans to relieve Shane Beamer of his duties, and barring something unheard of will be back as our head coach in 2027.
- His buyout is $28 mil which can be upwards of $30-50 mil when all said and done also having to buy out assistant coaches and support staff.
- NIL / PORTAL: Afraid of having to run a massive roster retention war chest so half of the team doesn’t enter the portal overnight.
- Paranoia and bad taste in the BOT and AD from previous coaching hire blunders. They’re deathly afraid of another Will Muschamp or top candidates using us as leverage for a better contract where they currently are / spurring us. They are still haunted by his massive buy out and watching him walk away with millions while leaving the roster completely depleted.
- Also what they like is that Shane Beamer has a genuine culture and administrative alignment, something Muschamp never had. He is visibly proud to coach the gamecocks and not looking for an NFL or other job.
- So barring a complete locker room revolt or catastrophic collapse meaning the majority of the team hits the portal, the logic of the BOT and athletic department right now is “Why throw $30M+ at an unknown gamble when you can pour those exact resources into Beamer's roster, NIL infrastructure, and staff pool to fix the engine directly?”
Take this as what you will but I believe this with strong accuracy.
So if you’re in the “FIRE BEAMER” yesterday camp, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
Yes, touching the endowment to buy out a coach would be the official moment the university completely lost its academic soul.Endowment funds are highly restrictive.
The overwhelming majority of the money is targeted for Scholarships, Campus Upgrades, professor salaries, etc.
The funds can not be used for NIL endeavors, unless an amendment would be added for such expenditure. That scenario just seems unimaginable.
We're like 3 plays from being 4-1 this season.
Gamecock fans know what a trainwreck looks like (Muschamp, Holtz, Scott, etc) -- This isn't it as of yet.
The media loves to talk about hot seats all year long to garner more interest.
Settle in. Beamer isn't going anywhere very soon.

So you don't beleive athletics has anything to do with why a student would choose USC?Yes, touching the endowment to buy out a coach would be the official moment the university completely lost its academic soul.
Yes.Three plays away from 4-1?
Sorry, didn't realize that was you posting on here, Dabo.
Carry on.
Lou started cratering from the moment Phil Petty graduated and he determined to make Jenkins into the Second Coming of Tony Rice, basically kneecapping Skip as OC.I liked Lou too. He totally lost the team in the end though.
It absolutely does. Way too much, in fact. What does that have to do with raiding the primary tool for funding academic scholarships to buy out a coach? So you don't beleive athletics has anything to do with why a student would choose USC?
Raiding? That bloated endowment is criminal. And students still pay out the nose for education. It absolutely does. Way too much, in fact. What does that have to do with raiding the primary tool for funding academic scholarships to buy out a coach?
I sat in W-B against Temple and watched us on third andHoltz was a trainwreck?
Here here; was preparing to post this very thing.Lou started cratering from the moment Phil Petty graduated and he determined to make Jenkins into the Second Coming of Tony Rice, basically kneecapping Skip as OC.
No one is disputing Lou's offense was painful to watch his last three seasons. I had season tickets on the 50 yard line all three of those years. The difference between Lou and Shane was Lou had a more consistent defense. Yes, we got scorched at times like '03 Clemson but for the most part it was bend but don't break. He had 19 SEC wins in 6 seasons (0 in '99 thanks to what Brad left) and Two Outback wins-better than Muschamp and Beamer.I sat in W-B against Temple and watched us on third and

Took my son to his first game when we played Temple at WB. We had a third and eight deep in our territory; looked lost on the field. Called a timeout as the play clock got close to zero; came out on the field after huddling with Holtz and ran ….qb draw with Jenkins. Picked up three yards. Punt.
A guy told me one time that the reason divorces were so expensive was because it was worth it. Same here with Shane.![]()
Shane Beamer buyout: Here’s how much it would cost South Carolina to fire its head coach
Shane Beamer's buyout at South Carolina wouldn't be a cheap resolution for the program, and Saturday's loss to Kentucky made his seat hotter.www.saturdaydownsouth.com
Getting rid of Beamer is more expensive than an ex-wife.
Good stats but where was the offense in the third quarter. Another unprepared Carolina team in the second half. That's on Beamer.South Carolina Offensive
Total Offense: 3rd in the SEC (491.0 ypg)
Rush Offense: 1st in the SEC (256 ypg)
Rush YPC: 2nd in FBS (6.53 ypc)
Means little without the Ws, but again, we're not far off.
Stop making silly mistakes in key moments would help alot.
Beamer didn't cause the fumble that swung momentum in the 1st half up 17-0.
He did havesome lame risk taking though.

I don't think you know how recruiting works in today's market....Agree with OP, except...if we finish 3-9 or 2-10, there is no way Beamer survives. The uproar from the fan base will be too much to ignore. Recruits will know he's a dead man walking and go elsewhere. Anyone decent on the team will hit the portal. Personally, I hope Beamer stays. But he has to pull some surprises down the stretch to survive.
I’m fine with Beamer sticking around. In fact, he should hang around until the end of his contract. That way we owe no buyout, and we can jettison the mess he’s created. He will also have failed so miserably that no school will hire him again. We're like 3 plays from being 4-1 this season.

And in SEC play for the last 10 games we are 1-9. And that win was against Kentucky. They aren't shown, but obviously the defensive stats tip the scale to the L side since they're 0-3 this season in conference. Doesn't matter if they score 60 PPG and have 1000 yards of offense if they give up 80 PPG. The metric that matters is the number of points scored - so far USC is averaging 29 PPG while giving up 42. On average, that's a two-touchdown gap they have to bridge to get on the right side of the ledger. That's how far off they are according to the scoreboard, not the offensive stats. But, maybe they just want to put the Rushing Champs trophy next to the Practice Champs one?![]()
Defense is not as good as they've been in previous years but has still not be awful. The last three teams we've played all been ranked and none have had over 500 Total Yards (we've had more total yards in 2 of those 3 game.) Have to stop making stupid mistakes (and turnovers) in key moments. They aren't shown, but obviously the defensive stats tip the scale to the L side since they're 0-3 this season in conference. Agree here. We haven't done a good job with adjustments at HT.Good stats but where was the offense in the third quarter. Another unprepared Carolina team in the second half. That's on Beamer.
I don't think the university can use endowment money for athletics. Donati doesn't have access to the endowment funds, they are probably restricted to academic use.The model is fully sustainable. USC has over a billion that they just sit on in endowment funding just like most of the other schools. They just have to pay players now to provide their fans/students a Saturday show. Drop in the bucket.
No, it doesn't work that way. The academic side, which has no love lost for athletics, would fight tooth and nail to protect the endowment money and would likely win.Oh comeon now. They can move the books any which way to get those funds. You should know this Harvard.
They are on the balance sheet so they can leverage them anyway you please (intradepartment, interest, loans, etc)I don't think the university can use endowment money for athletics. Donati doesn't have access to the endowment funds, they are probably restricted to academic use.
Apparently not, at least men's athletics. So you don't beleive athletics has anything to do with why a student would choose USC?
I'm not a lawyer, nor have I looked at the endowment documents, but I would venture that the endowment funds are completely separate from the general funds of the university. The people who set up endowments know that administrators would love to be able to get their hands on the endowment funds to pay for vanity projects or pet programs. I would imagine the endowment probably specifically prohibits using endowment funds for extracurricular activities like athletics, recreation facilities, etc..They are on the balance sheet so they can leverage them anyway you please (intradepartment, interest, loans, etc)
It doesn't have to come directly out of the fund on paper.
Look at it this way --- The General Fund is your checking account. The Savings Account is your Endowment. Both are yours to leverage. It doesn't matter how they push it around. Trump has openly scolded Unversities for their bloated Endowment Funds on many occasions. USC doesn't need even close to half of what they have accumulated.I'm not a lawyer, nor have I looked at the endowment documents, but I would venture that the endowment funds are completely separate from the general funds of the university. That sounds great, but it isn't correct. It is more like the general fund is your checking account and the endowment is a trust account with restrictions placed on it as to how much money and what the money can be used for.Look at it this way --- The General Fund is your checking account. You're leaning to much on AI for your info. All of what you've written is accurate -- it's just not how things work behind the scenes with creative accounting. USC has the ability to push as much money as needed to the AD Dept. if they so choose. For decades, athletics has helped drive demand for the school so it's also intimately tied to the endowment. That sounds great, but it isn't correct. The worst position any college can be in is to be dependent on tuition and fees to cover all operating costs. Endowments act like shock absorbers that allow colleges to keep tuition and fees relatively stable. The HBCUs suffer from almost total dependence on tuition ands fees to fund operations. That is why the cost to attend those schools is so high. HBCUs generally have little to no money in their endowments.
I don't use AI for anything. If athletics truly drove demand for the school and endowment, USC would have empty dorms and classroom buildings and the endowment would be 5 figures. WBB does not drive demand for a school. You're leaning to much on AI for your info. All of what you've written is accurate -- it's just not how things work behind the scenes with creative accounting.
