Does it make any sense to fire Schiano right now or wait until the end of the season? If you were AD, what is your plan?

I would wait until the end of the season.

I'm firing now during a bye week to give the staff time to make adjustments. I'm not looking for more wins or an early jump on the coaching search. I should already have a list of coaches I want to contact as I know this is a lost season.

My main job is to fundraise and maintain the fanbase. My job becomes much easier and plausible to explain away loses with an interim coach to donors and Ad sponsors, that I will not accept the status quo. It also restores hope to the fanbase that things are changing. Keeping a lame duck coach longer than necessary only hinders my mission.

Its a sad situation. I like Greg. I appreciate what he did during the first stint. I appreciate that he worked tirelessly and believed he was going to get it done. But, it is time for a change and that should happen today. Brian Kelly is not the answer. I don't have an answer right now. It needs to be somebody with a proven resume of success and being around really good head coaches where they learned how to run a program. Should probably be somebody with HC experience but if there is a top notch coordinator who comes from a solid coaching tree, then maybe I would waive the HC experience

I want him to go now. I think they wait till end of the season though.

They also need to have a plan in place for who his replacement may be.
It doesn’t work that way. You won’t know until winter any potential candidates. Do you have his buyout money? I didn’t think so…

I believe that Schiano will find another job as a defensive coordinator when fired.
His contract stipulates that any annual compensation from a new coaching job gets subtracted from his existing contract.
Hence, his buyout is significantly reduced,

When you know you are going to fire someone, experience has taught me to do asap.

No real school will give Greg Schiano any money to run their defense. They’ve seen ours. He’s no defensive guru.

If not Kelly I want a young energetic guy with HC experience not a OC or DC like a caller mentioned on Knightline after the game. Joe Sloan is a good OC at LSU and now Kentucky but I'm afraid this may have a Chris Ash feel. Sorry Phil.

He needs to go now

Rutgers and Keli are in a precarious situation. One she needs to show the fans that she is serious about a winning football team and two she needs to sell a vision to prospective donors immediately and secure as much money as soon as possible
Greg has not had the benefit of full alignment under the new President and AD. Give him 2 more years. He had a lot of good answers in his presser last night indicating what is needed to be fixed.

No I don't. Does anyone who wants him fired? Everyone should want him fired now. The people that don't are part of the problem. Obviously we wont know the candidates till the winter but a good program should have an idea of who they are considering. That's how winning programs work.

Greg has really thrown Zinn, Tate & Rutgers into a terrible situation with a complete dud of a season. Objectively, this year’s schedule was very manageable. Obviously UMass and BC were supposed to be wins. USC proving they’re not performing to their preseason hype. Michigan and Penn State in coaching transitions and not looking so hot. No OSU or Oregon. Indiana proving to be the only powerhouse the schedule, and we’re still falling on our face.

This was supposed to be a year to buy some time and let Zinn raise more money, while expecting to be at least poor-to-mediocre. Instead we’re Ash-level embarrassing bad, which forces Zinn/Tate into a situation they may not be financially prepared for. We’ll see what happens, but Greg has really shat the bed.

I don't think 5-7 saves him. Will take at least 6-6, maybe 7-5.

If GS survives the weekend, I suspect he is here for the duration of the season. But if he goes 0 for October, all bets are off.

We have two winning head coaches on our staff RIGHT NOW (DC, edge guy who was like 81-0 in NAIA) who could just as easily call 4 straight runs up the middle down 16-0 just like we did last night, and maybe they might even try a positive play more than once every 3 drives. Why not give one of them the reigns heading into Maryland??

Fire Kirk. No feel for the game, no feel for his players. Anyone could tell you Lonergan is not the type of player to run that 4th down play, yet Kirk calls it because Kirk is incapable of making any game time adjustments or coming up with any type of unique play that fits his players. And what is the result, the other team knows exactly what is going to happen, makes the stop, and Kirk gets his QB hurt.

Make some statement. I believe the hiring of Kirk was one of the biggest mistakes Schiano made - just a tired old boring OC.

With a fairly mediocre schedule Greg easily could have navigated 6-6 to buy him another year even though many of us would want him gone but the 1-4 start is a failure of massive proportions. Greg is being buried alive. A signal must be sent

Simply not true my friend and I think you are aware of that fact. Anyway….It’s time to cut the cord. Immediately. Show the college football world that were serious for once. Keeping greg till the end of the season does absolutely nothing whatsoever to help this program.

Terrible timing for certain. The decision is easy now on every level. Optically obviously firing him is the right move. Financially, keeping him is no longer tenable. It’s also the obvious right move. All this has done is sped up the timeline. Less than ideal, however inevitable.

He hired who he could. No one wants to work for Schiano. He’s a loser who grinds guys. They aren’t learning anything yet also getting killed. Book is out on Schiano.

Yea that’s definitely not true. The horse trading in season when a role opens is very active behind the scenes

OK, so you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. It’s simply your opinion. All good. Thank you for being honest.

Oh hey! Somebody expressed their opinion on a message board!!! WTF was he thinking. Let's take him out back and beat the **** out of him.

He’s an arrogant, insufferable micromanager with no feel for the game. Hardly anyone ever agrees to coach under him, and for the same reason no coach would want him on staff. He’s unhireable.

He was a DC failure at OSU, a Molotov cocktail at Tennessee, and the only reason he got the Bucs and Patriot jobs is because Steven Belichick was on the team for a year.

This is his last football job. He’s done nothing in 20 years to deserve one.

You didn’t know that some posters have a direct line to Kel and Bill and knowledge of when Schiano will be gone.
