Defense IS worse than last year. That’s unfortunately very easy to see with the eye test.

coaching staff has made this program so unwatchable. No imagination. Terrified to even return kicks . Continually showing absolutely zero hope against any top 25 team. Not even a minute of “oh maybe “
Zero is an exaggeration on imagination

The offense is so predictable and straight forward. No imagination

Defense looks nothing like GS 1.0 defense.

It’s possible we literally don’t have 1 guy on defense that would start for the 2006-. Not even 1 guy.

OL stinks. Not one highly rated recruit. None would start on the 2006-2009 teams.

Almost invisible TE room for 7 years.

Below average QB every year except the 2 AK years.

We need a regime change. Schiano ball has run its course

No surprise. Could have been worse!
59 yards on 35 attempts with a good back is crazy
I know the OL is a jalopy but can coaches be a little inventive instead of beating head against a wall?
Rutgers should just run the option because its a service academy team pretending to be a pro set
Who would teach it?

Who would teach it?

Beats me I'm only half serious because I know nothing will happen. Probably someone from Army or Navy. Service academies run the option because it gives leverage to teams who cant get the huge. dancing bear lineman and the great passing QBs. It keeps the other teams offense off the field .

GS just cant get a full team of BIG players year after year. The offense will have a few stars but the defense stinks. Then the defense is good but the QB cant throw over 20 yds. A key player gets hurt and the season goes down the toilet (Paul James, Cruickshank and others). I used to think maybe Schiano's desire top get "good guys" hindered recruiting. Ex Jet Bart Scott used to say "You have to have a few goblins on a good team." But Cignetti also wants good guys and gets them. Cignetti is doing what Greg wanted to do

Al Golden at Temple said that he realized he was not going to get the guys Penn St, and Pitt get. He altered his style to do what they weren't doing strategy wise. He aimed to get the biggest guys on line that he could find (like Muhammed Wilkerson) and be a heavy-set power running team that just beat people up. He didn't just aim for speedy WRs and big arms. He just wanted to steamroll opponents and it worked for him at Temple.

Adazzio continued with same mindset but added more option stuff to his spread. Addazio and Urban Meyer were once sent to Georgia Southern to study coach Paul Johnson’s (ex Navy coach) famous flexbone triple-option offense to learn how to adapt its principles (Monken brought flexbone to Army). Meyer incorporated parts of it in his Tebow offense.

These coaches adapted to what they had or didn't have. I don't notice a hole lot of that with Schiano teams, RU doesn't have to run the Flexbone. I see RU trying to run outside with zone blocking but its not really an option. That weird Siamese mesh RU uses never really sees QB keep the ball so what is the point?

While I am thinking of it - great article about Cigs OL coach

"Cignetti brought five assistants and multiple staffers with him from James Madison to Bloomington in December 2023, continuity that has helped the Hoosiers build a national title contender. But when he looked at the offensive line, Cignetti saw the right piece already was in place: Bob Bostad, whose reputation as a technician coupled with his experience and coaching acumen made him the perfect candidate.“I had known his name for about 10 or 12 years and his reputation,” Cignetti said Monday. “When I looked at who was on the roster in terms of the coaching staff (the previous) year, and I saw that he had been the line coach, that excited me. I offered him the opportunity to stay right away. And I don’t think it took real long to make a decision.” "

How the only Indiana assistant Curt Cignetti retained built the Hoosiers’ secret weapon

Loved the unfiltered pod gents.

At this point Rutgers football is just where good times go to die…

As someone with no academic ties to the university it’s harder and harder to stay invested.

Ironically he was Greg's O-Line coach in 2012-13 in Tampa.

Thanks yes I was wondering about that when I read he coached at Tampa around the time GS was there. The owners had fired coaches every couple of years so it was a crowded time for coaches in Tampa lol.

A qoute from the post game presser.

It's my job to get this fixed. I've been doing this a long time, I know how to do it. I've got to go do it. I can't talk about it, got to do it."

My question is: If you know how to do it why haven't you done it already?
