This was probably always going to be a loss, but the concerning thing is

This looks like a 7-5 make 8-4 (stretch) team. Mid on both sides of the ball, they will be thankful for an easy 2nd half schedule. Maybe we can play spoiler to Nebraska’s playoff run.

All they had to do was show we belonged.
I wouldn’t call Iowa’s 2nd half of the schedule easy. It isn’t a gauntlet, but there’s 4-5 solid to good teams remaining.

That’s not counting the trip out west in 6 days.

We'll be late to that party. Nebraska will be lucky to win 7 games.

Nebraska always pulls a Maryland early in the season, drop 60 against nobodies then collapse in B1G play. They just got lucky they get to play 2 of the bottom 5 teams in the conference to start.

Nebraska’s QB is very good. The rest of the team is not lol. They better hope he stays healthy when they start playing teams with a pulse.

The thing is…and it’s an Iowa thing…is that no real fan now feels confident or optimistic about any game left on the schedule? Why would you? It’s the same old incompetent offense but with a worse defense.

Every game will be a grinder.,

Iowa won’t be favored at Wash next week. May only be favored against Purdue.,

That’s the season in front of Iowa. It’s a Kirk problem.

Well…..

Michigan lost again.. to Minnesota
West Virginia put up 42 points on Iowa State.
And we sucked again on offense today.

Do you still have the “the other team’s defense was one of the most stout” reasonings or are you finally living on planet earth?

Nope I don’t. Like I said in this (and other posts) the reality doesn’t look good.

Also that’s really your reply after I said this team is 7-5 or 8-4, literally admitting to what you said? Reading for comprehension must be tough.

I mean cmon. We knew going into this game we needed to play a perfect game. Instead we turned the ball over right away, and instead of playing to win early we had a 2nd and 2 in OSU territory and had 2 incomplete passes and then kicked a field goal. Kirk talked out of his *** about needing to score more points and then he curls up. We needed touchdowns to win today. OSU is still probably the best team in the country. Some upcoming games look harder than we thought but I’m still pretty confident we’ll be in every game we play moving forward.

That's not quite true. Gilmore our WR only had 6 less receptions and 60 less receiving yards than Iowa's whole team today. We have a stable of WR we can run out there at any given time. Freshman RB Rule looks like he's that dude. Can't wait to get him back next week. The TE Lindenmeyer is a solid all around player and the OLine is vastly improved after removing Uncle Donny as coach. There's a lot of talent on both sides of the ball for Nebraska, by far our most talented team in awhile. Now we just need to cut down on the penalties, 16 is not gonna cut it moving forward. We might be the most penalized team in the B1G right now. That's not gonna win you many ball games against the majority of these B1G teams.

I thought Iowa's D looked good for the most part, especially being out there for almost 40 minutes. OSU almost doubled the time of possession. Your guy's defense will win you a lot of B1G games this year. Good luck the rest of the way.

Unless Jeremiah Smith is on the opposing sideline 3 or 4 more times this year I'm not worried about going 8-4 or 7-5.
Hope you're right. I could see going 2-2 in the next 4 with Wisconsin at home and road games against Washington, Minnesota and Northwestern. That would leave us 6-3 with home games against Purdue and Nebraska and on the road against Illinois. It wouldn't be crazy to go 8-4 or hope for 9-3. jmo

Nebraska has played a pathetically weak schedule thus far. We played OSU and at Michigan. They played the two worst teams in the league as well as a horrible non league schedule.

This is obviously not one of Parker's better defenses.
Could argue it's one of the worst.

Outside of Buffington, the front 7 sux.
And the defensive backs are having to cover receivers longer with no pass rush.

2026 is gonna be a struggle.

Isn’t it wild that we can be so incredibly inferior that the other team can make a bunch of mistakes and be average (at best) for, like, half the game, YET we are still said to have needed a “perfect game”?

Yikes. Our brand of winning football games b/c the other team(s) shoot themselves in the foot numerous times is…..Lame.

I'm worried about the Washington game because of the travel, short week, and now injuries.

I'm not worried about the other three based on what I've seen so far

Once again hope you're right...I think Northwestern looks pretty good and Minnesota on the road also will be tough.

Correct, we could lose to Minny, Whiskey, Washington, Nebraska and we are going to lose at Northwestern.
