Teams that prove SC can win too, but we suck at hiring coaches

Football teams that are unexpectedly decent to good, from year to year, despite limitations of their state, conference, and recruiting/portal prowess. Seriously, why not SC???

Don’t suggest things like this and then provide evidence. People here hate that. Seems that a majority of the fanbase believes the past has to determine the future.

We had 2 HOF coaches.....where are the national championship trophies? Where are the SEC titles? I rest my case.

How did we get behind Vandy, Mizzou, Missy State and Old Piss? Probably KY as well, we will know in a few hours. We fell to nearly dead last in the SEC.

Because we make idiotic hiring decisions. Muschamp=proven loser at wealthier program with richer history. Beamer=TE coach with no P5 coordinator experience. Only hiring requirement was eloquent dialogue I guess. 🙄

We don’t make idiotic coaching hires though, in large part. Morrison was a good hire. Scott was a good hire at the time based on all available information. Holtz was a great hire. Spurrier was a great hire.

Muschamp was bad, but nobody, and I mean nobody wanted this job after a Hall of Fame coach was forced to quit midseason and walk away in shame. That guy from Houston jerked us around for a little bit.

Morrison was decent, but I also remember losing to unranked Navy, getting dragged up and down the field by Deion and Florida State in 1988, and embarrassed by LSU in our bowl game, so Morrison had his Shane Beamer moments too. Scott was a good-looking hire at the time, but not all of those hot coordinator hires work out, he just happened to be a complete bust. Holtz and Spurrier were rescue hires made by our best AD ever, who actually was a real AD, McGee. McGee made some great hires but fumbled the ball on the way out the door when Tanner got hired as his replacement. Tanner had no business being an AD of an SEC team that was at an all time high in wins in football. Tanner=on the job training, Beamer=on the job training, Muschamp=proven failure at more elite program. Holtz rescued us from the dead and when he realized he could not take us to the next level retired and helped get Spurrier in here. We had our chance to elevate our program when Spurrier was leaving but botched the AD hire and then botched the successor hire by getting Muschamp and continued to fall with the hiring of unqualified candidate, Beamer.

It does, until it doesn’t. Plus NIL has completely changed the game. This is not 10 years ago. SC doesn’t have the money to compete, so we have to be smart. Smart is not nor has ever been an SC quality.

Most of those teams don't play a schedule like ours. Plus we add Clemson. It's hard to build when you play a gauntlet every year. We have very little success in our history and less money to spend than other schools. We need a perfect storm to win here and things never seem to line up at Carolina.
