When it comes down to it, you seem upset that people are excited and hopeful about Matt Campbell as head coach. Why?
Because he's mad JF got fired so this is basically an old man having a tantrum for 8+ months now. He was a coach and he roots for coaches and not the program. He didn't like how people ganged up on James and in his underdeveloped mind he is showing everyone here something....what....most have no clue. I'm honestly not surprised he hasn't moved on to the VT site to be honest to root for his man....it's odd. It's moronic, but he's here to keep everyone in line or so he thinks.....but he's turned himself into an utter joke. It's not a stretch at all to say this guy would love JF to win a NC and MC to flop. He may not admit to it, but his ISU BS and all of this he continues to carry on about is a joke.

2026 a complete disaster (not Campbell's fault, Kraft's handywork) 2027 class currently ranks behind
Oregon, Ohio State, UCLA, Nebraska, Washington, MIchigan and USC (per rivals). That puts PSU #8 in the Big Ten. That's a lot of "coaching up" LOL. Richardson is the class of 2028 and has visits with at least 5 other programs scheduled. "We" landed Kahlil Taylor too.
The goal is not beating teams "without a pulse" it's excellence at the highest level!
Not sure it’s that simple to predict on field success with recruiting rankings any more. Case in point, Indiana currently 31rst ranked 2027 recruiting class. Player retention and filling in holes via the portal has an important impact. Nil funds are also important, and it certainly seems like Campbell is courting some of the former Paterno donors . We will see how it turns out. I also think it’s a bit early to conclude that Campbell cannot recruit good high school players. Franklin is a good recruiter, but I only recall one top ten class that he recruited.

I will agree that ultimately Campbell will need to make the playoffs and win big games to keep his job. I hope he does, just like I hoped Franklin would have done so.

When I see top 10 talent acquisition I will "be excited and hopeful." But if folks were being realistic, they'd acknowledge that this program has some serious issues with it's foundation (centered around recruiting and NIL).

So yes, I will enjoy victories over Marshall and Temple.....and pretty much the lower half of the conference. But excited and hopeful (in terms of achieving excellence at the highest level) will await and hinge on top 10 recruiting classes and signing top talent (not coach em up) from the portal.
Funny you don’t mention winning as something you’d be excited about, but rather, “top 10 recruiting classes.” I will remind you that Franklin only ever had one of those. I think you’re right, we do need lots of improvement in NIL and structural support to build big time rosters as far as recruiting service rankings.

But what’s becoming very clear is that Matt Campbell and his staff are FAR better at scouting and identifying talent than the recruiting services—and most college football coaches, for that matter. It’s crazy to see the number of guys he brings in the other schools and services missed that have a huge and immediate impact!

Caleb Bacon was a walk-on from small-town Iowa and kicked off his PSU debut as Big Ten co-defensive player of the week. Josiah Zayas is challenging one of our best defensive backs of the decade for playing time. Amarion Jackson is lighting it up at WR after switching positions. Trevor Buhr is one of our best offensive linemen. Brock Riker is another he snatched from Texas State and already appears years more experienced than he actually is. Kooper Ebel looks cut from the same cloth as our old-school legendary linebackers like Poz, Connor, Lee, etc. And these do not appear to be one-off flukes. He keeps finding these guys over, and over, and over.

So yeah, if Campbell can recruit like this, I’m more than happy with that. The thing is, Franklin used to recruit like this too. He and his staff trusted their eyes and put out offers to guys with potential that they knew would fit their style. McSorley was recruited at defensive back to most schools but they liked him at QB. Saquon Barkley was a 3-star committed to Rutgers. But Franklin’s Achilles heel was “image.” He believed that if PSU could look the part, they’d become the part. That was the reason for his suit and sunglasses during game day entrances. The lonnnng press conferences with lots of fancy stats and facts about the other team. Much of the facility renovation, while functional and very needed, was also about making PSU look sleek and modern. So naturally, once they started experiencing success, he and the staff stopped trusting their eyes when it came to recruiting. They simply looked at the recruiting services and went after the highest rated guys they could get—whether or not they were a fit for the system and whether or not they truly deserved their rating. He wanted to boost PSU’s recruiting image with star ratings (though again, most of his being a good recruiter was self-proclaimed as he whiffed on top 10 classes over 90% of the time). He went after flashy coordinators, whether or not their system fit the players or even his own football philosophy. Which is why every coordinator ended up at odds with him after 2-3 years. And by the end, we had a top-rated QB unable to reliably get the ball more than 15 yards downfield as he was being jammed into a horizontal rush-attack style gimmick offense…with no defensive tackles big enough to play in the big ten and only one big ten quality LB.

I think in this new era of football, recruiting services haven’t mattered less. Many of the teams desperate to snag some 5-star recruits are crumbling due to a lack of depth (paying out so much to one player rather than building a team) and entitled pansies who can’t handle adversity.

So, if you want to judge everything off of some scout who chases around 16-year-old boys at camps and bestows them some number of stars, be my guest. But I think you’re going to spend a lot of time grumbling and being miserable while Campbell builds a winning team.

Hope springs eternal in the hearts of Campbell fanboys. If he's not producing, it doesn't matter. It's more than a slippery slope to profess that your coach identifies and develops talent better than any of the programs that recruit (and portal) better than PSU. Does he walk on water too? It appears he has the correct shoe strings for it. LOL
Bottom line is that the rank and file BWICAC has chosen the philosophy that every loss is the fault of the coach. I like it. 2027-28 and opponents with a pulse are coming. No worries, we see talent where no one else does and we coach em up. LOL Fairy tales can come true it can happen to you......

You must have blocked all those past big losses out of your mind then.
Joe got stuffed on the goal line and Bobby suffered multiple wide rights, before they became "brilliant" football coaches in the minds of fanboys everywhere.
Not everyone was an immediate legend like Charlie Weis.

Let's establish something. You are judging on the basis of 1 game vs Marshall. I think it's precious that a keyboard fanboy dismisses 5 star talent as "entitled pansies." Next season, PSU is coming face to face with those pansies. LOL I wonder who would be leading the cheers if PSU could sign just one "entitled Pansy?

5-star talent as judged by who? You seem to put a whole lot of weight into what some intern thinks about 15- and 16-year olds and how many stars they deserve. Once again, Campbell has proven he finds real talent, no matter what the recruiting services, or even other coaches, think. And these guys turn out to be great players WAY more than it being some fluke or pipe dream.

And no, not every 5-star is a pansy, but the way current high school football recruiting is going, it’s turning more and more of those 5-star guys into entitled pansies. It’s not mentally healthy for 16-18-year-olds to have SO much fawning attention and money thrown at them. Their pre-frontal cortex is not developed yet, so their decision-making and self-image is highly skewed. It’s not their fault they become pansies, but the system warps them into it. Bryce Underwood is a good example. What happened to Chaz Coleman? Drew Allar wasn’t exactly full of himself and I think he genuinely wanted to do well, but had this aura of thinking that the victories should come easy for him because of the attention and money he was getting. Malachi Goodman looks like he may live up to his 5-star ranking, however.

I work in a school. At least for them, their whiny, complainy, judgy, sarcastic communication patterns are a normal part of their development—they grow out of it. I can’t figure out how or why you’re stuck being like that.
Don't they screen their employees? I'd be concerned employing someone in a responsible position that has what appears to be misogynistic tendencies.

Perhaps the agencies should employ you and use your expertise in separating the 5 star "pansies" who are still developing their "pre-frontal cortex."
If Campbell turns water into wine, why did he not win a Big 12 title in a decade? Could it be that identifying and developing talent "underrated talent" will only make you competitive and not elite?
Stop twisting yourself into a pretzel and admit that in today's college football, money is the bottom line.
In football, as in life, there are no guarantees. But to compete with the titans, on an annual basis, PSU needs to make drastic improvement in its talent acquisition. Better recruiting and cream of the crop portal additions. Identifying undervalued talent and coaching em up is a fanboy fantasy and ultimately won't produce better long term results than what PSU saw under Franklin. Year in and year out, the 45 million dollar roster will beat the 30 million dollar roster. I don't like it, but it's the reality of what "college football" has become.

Currently, it seems like experience is almost as important as talent. Let’s see who stays for a fifth year and what is brought in from the portal before we sign Campbell’s walking papers after next years season.

No one is suggesting anything of the sort. The issue is, given the current state of the NIL "war chest" is it logical to project PSU reaching "excellence at the highest level?" My assertion is that it's fanboy fantasy to think Coach possesses talent identification skills and doubles down with coach em up magic that no other coach in America could possibly match. The reality is that some programs are spending 45 or 50 million on a roster. I don't think Campbell is the problem. It may be the entitled and delusional portion of the fanbase that thinks PSU is still a top 5 program, when in fact the past 30+ years are proof that it is more a top 15 program. Being a consistent top 5 or top 10 program will require better recruiting (than in the past) and shopping for premium talent to fill needs in the portal.
Since stepping foot on campus, Matt Campbell has done virtually everything right. But realists would acknowledge that recruiting is mediocre at best. That likely has to do with the lack of funding and yet our AD insisted that he would have all the resources needed to win a NC.
The gloves come off in 27 and 28 as the conference schedule will be more Big Ten like. Do you really want to navigate those schedules with the 6th or 7th best recruiting classes in the conference?

You see what happened to Oregon against Oklahoma State? That’s exactly what I mean by “entitled 5-star pansies.” It’s becoming a cancerous trend that the money and attention is getting to these guys’ heads. They go out there and act like they’ve already earned everything that’s to be earned. It’s because the current system is set up as bribery (come and I’ll give you $$$$$$) rather than an earned reward for real production.

I think it's quite "precious" that a manly man keyboard warrior would label a D1 5 star football player as a "pansy."So are you willing to back up your assertion and declare that this year's national champion's rosters will not include former 5 stars?

Uhhhh no lol. I already said, not every 5-star is like that, but you’re seeing this kind of stuff more and more. For a lot of them, once they get their pay day, they’re not as motivated to win. Money’s already in hand.

But for the record, how many 5-stars were on Indiana’s team last year? You’re kind of proving my point.

You pray for an Indiana miracle to happen in Happy Valley? How many times has this occurred? I notice Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State can win with 5 star talent.
Your plan is akin to living on government assistance and playing the lottery. Great odds.

Alright here it is. This is the moment Campbell was talking about. When adversity hits, how does the team respond? Will it be like that play against Marshall where they reset and improvise to change their trajectory? Or does the team completely fall apart like last year?

Gotta be honest, how broken the offense was last week doesn’t give me much hope, but this is a prove it moment for them.

I think they pull out the win. However, the euphoria that will result with that victory doesn't undo last week. It happened and it exposed some troubling deficiencies. In talent and coaching. Struggling to be the 6th or 7th best team in the conference is not promising. Nor is it excellence at the highest level.
