Howdy, Texas Aggie here, heading to NYC tonight. My wife and daughter are heading to Harry Styles Saturday night and rather than watch my Aggies play on TV I thought I'd check in to catching a Rutgers game.
Is it a big deal to get back and forth from the city? Looks like about an hour train?
Anyway, any thoughts appreciated.

Welcome. TAMU game is on my bucket list. I saw them play at Clemson a few years ago and they brought their band. Best band in the country in my opinion, just mesmerizing to watch.

Get inside the stadium before 7:30, it’s going to be an exciting atmosphere for pregame and the first quarter, then we’ll see.

Take an early train! The shuttle from getting off the train could be a 30-40 minute experience between waiting and then the drive over to the stadium. I would plan for a 3/3:30 train from Penn Station. (Be careful using NJ Transit - there are 2 Penn Stations, NY Penn and Newark Penn which is between NYC and New Brunswick/Rutgers, watch the time tables to make sure.

There’s a pep rally at the stage out front of the stadium at 5:30pm, it’s cool the marching band will play and the team arrives at the statue of the first college football game. Worth getting a photo there on the “Scarlet Walk” with the Birthplace of College Football statue. Then check out the Boardwalk, a Jersey Shore tradition brought to campus. One of the most underrated fan zones/atmospheres in college football. Ferris wheel has great views of the tailgates. Have fun!

I live in New York and travel regularly by train to Rutgers football games.

That is best way to go. It will be a late night with the 8 pm kickoff and return trip will be tiresome.

Buy tickets at the station kiosks not on the train.

Trains depart at 12:29 am and 1:09 am from New Brunswick so you will be good even if the game last 4 hours which is possible as Schiano likes calling unnecessary timeouts that extend games.

I recommend taking the 5:58 pm from New York Penn arriving New Brunswick at 6:47 pm. When you arrive to New Brunswick, walk 10-15 minutes straight down College Ave to the student center where buses bring hordes of students to the stadium. This more reliable than trying to find the bus allegedly connecting the train station and stadium.

This site will feature an entertaining game day thread you can read on the train to and from the game.

I'd buy tickets on the NJ Transit app and leave earlier to take in the pregame events, like the Boardwalk, live music and tailgating.

Arrive earlier and take in the tailgating scene. What we lack in on-field performance, we make up for with the tailgate, Boardwalk, etc. Check it all out….you’ll find it really cool and you’ll be welcomed at tailgates.

Ha, we're everywhere!
The best way to buy a train ticket is on your smartphone. NJ Transit has a useful app.

If you are able bodied, From the train station, you can actually walk to the stadium, down college avenue, through campus, which will merge onto George Street, then you just cross landing lane bridge to get to the stadium. On the way, you can grab a FatCat sandwich, at RU Hungry, which is a campus tradition. It’s a 40 minute walk, but worth it, especially if you arrive early.

it sure beats the bus ride.

Why complicate things with an uber - just train to New Brunswick and walk 10 minutes straight up College Avenue to the College Avenue Gym and get one of the many constant student buses from there.
Because it’s easier and probably faster?

Welcome! Can't wait to make it to Kyle Field one of these days! Enjoy your trip and...I'm not so sure it will be the case...but hopefully the students show up tomorrow night to provide that "electric atmosphere" that someone mentioned earlier otherwise, unfortunately, there may be more IU fans in the building. That being said our tailgate scene is as good as it gets! Make sure to get to The Blue Lot early and partake in R Tailgate (see: @MrsScrew) you will NOT be disappointed!!!

@Fleen97 We're located in the Blue lot, front row against the fence, under the tree. We have a U-Haul van.
Tomorrow is Italian Feast Tailgate.

Out of everyone, they’ve been the nicest B1G fanbase.

At least around me, which is visiting fans for every game.

@MrsScrew We're getting to the yellow lot at 2 PM. We'll save a parking spot for you, lol.

My wife is making a rare home game appearance tomorrow. If we get a chance, I'll walk her over to say hi to you and @AreYouNUTS
