That makes sense.
With the way Pope talked the other day, I don’t see how it could be anyone different. I doubt anyone good would leave their current school this late in the process and anyone that’s not hired is that way for a reason.

Because he’s really “smart” and stubborn. People that actually believe they’re really smart tend to be the people that don’t listen to others. It’s wild.
Smart people realize how much they don’t know and always downplay their own intelligence.

I think he said Fox was leading the defense this year. This board is filled with posters who just post stuff as fact with no foundation. People want to be miserable. So much so that they invent ways to be disappointed.
My question on Fox is , what has he accomplished in his career to earn and keep his spot on the staff? Our defense has been poor the past couple of years even when we had guys relatively healthy at times.

Not being a smart *** but just wondering what would stand out on his resume to bring him here , retain him and let him handle the defensive side of things.

Outside of coaching Georgia I dont know his credentials . I do agree that not all assistant coaches make a great HC.

Pope doesn't need to hire an assistant. He doesn't need to recruit better. He doesn't need to win more games. He doesn't need to teach his team defense. He doesn't need a real GM.

What He needs is for fans to pat him on the shoulder and say we're with you! We love you coach! It's our job to uphold the standard. Not the head coach.......

Quit wanting your favorite team to be winners. Don't have passion and be a victim as beatleboy says. You accept mediocrity and you be happy about it lol. 9th seeds in the conference tournament baby!!

Some people don’t understand that. Same way some think you need 10 assistants to be good. Basketball is not like football. Only need 1-2 guys at least during games giving input. I personally only listen and trust 2 guy during games. The other assistants are used to coach up guys on mistakes and sometimes to ease tensions on the bench.

I don't want to be miserable. I want kentucky to win every game we ever play for the rest of time. It's just my opinion that Pope is not as humble as he presents himself and it hurts him in doing his job.

You can see through Popes bulkshiyat also? Yeah he's full of it. Most people are over it. You aren't miserable for wanting your team to do better.

I never said we needed 10 assistant to be good. We aren’t good with any amount of assistants. I just don’t understand the logic of not using all of your resources. Especially if it’s a make or break year for you.

How you know we won’t be good?
So far, most experts who have released “top 25” or “top 50” lists would place Kentucky in the top 18-25. When you add the other SEC teams in front of us, that places us at around 6th or 7th in conference. How is that “good”?

He is on the staff because Pope hired him. The guy became an HC at an SEC school. People don’t sleep walk into those high level jobs. They can coach. Pope like all coaches makes decisions about his assistants. I am not sure why it demands such attention. Pope will succeed or he won’t. Personally, I don’t see any reason to spend any bandwidth debating the staff.

Someone, however, really coached the defense up over the course of the season in Pope’s first year. Was that Fox? IDK.

No worries, I was just curious on Fox and good assistant coaches do make a difference.

I thought the whole reason we got guys like Mo and Aberdeen last year was because our defense was lacking in season 1. I do recall Pope stating that. Either way I hope the team does well especially against Kansas and Louisville.

I don't think he's the JVC yet he talking to recruits about wearing the sacred piece of cloth so he still loves the program just no where near good enough
I want to believe that. But I just can’t believe he’s this bad if he’s trying at all.

Maybe he is just totally incompetent? Doing the best he can and just can’t get it done?

He didn’t play like that. What happened to that guy?

Idk but he's failed miserably. There's 7 men who's had this job since the late 30 5 have been successful. We keep coaches because they've had success pope won't be here much longer and it's not gonna get better because of the way he acts and talks. He's not gonna get recruits like that by talking about the sacred piece of cloth or how beautiful everything is . Even kids from Kentucky will pass . And he won't win more games because there is no magic wand to do with that he needs to be 27-5 and that's not gonna be close to happening

He obviously went after then left the door open for Jamaal Crawford. With that said, surely someone qualified helps more than no one at all. Whether it’s prep work, handling players or recruiting, we’re currently down one for no good reason.
Right! Why wouldn’t he at least go get the best recruiter he can get. That’s an area that he definitely needs help. I don’t understand the thinking in leaving a coaching slot open. No way another top coach would do that.

Our season started with troubled defense in season 1. The last 1/3 of the season, the metrics for defense were reportedly very good.

Maybe Pope can jet over to Iran right now and find the Iranian hulk in the midst of war.Or he can bring back that point guard Matt Jones referred to years ago compliments of Trueblue Kentucky.
Well one they hate Americans. Also why waste the jet fuel when he could just say no in a zoom meeting
