Would You Support A High Profile Game on a Weekday Night?

Say like on a Thursday night and teams are picked a week and a half advance.

Teams can decline the offer. Then new teams would be picked.

Teams only allowed to play in one Thursday night game per year. Regular season games only.

Kind of like the NFLs Monday Night football. This would be your states premier game.

I just thought I would throw that out there.

They do a weekly Thursday Night game of the week here in Knoxville/East Tennessee. With countless commercials the games end well after 11 pm. It’s very popular but also the schools playing that week get off the next day. I’d imagine parents aren’t happy their kids get home so late & they have to pick them up & take them home especially if they have to work the next day

My understanding of the question is two teams that aren't scheduled to play are scheduled to play and given enough notice to gameplan.

What about the teams they were supposed to play, do they have to agree to a game?

This would be for teams already scheduled to play each other but change their game to Thursday night. Only one game gets switched to Thursday night.

already happens during Jewish holidays. Generally has small crowds due to conflicts, school the next day, etc.

They’ve been playing Thursday games in the north and northwest suburbs since I was in HS and I’m getting on in years.

Love this idea.

Have it be televised so the whole state has an opportunity to watch the game.

Get a sponsor - The Ozinga GOTW. They’d do it in a heartbeat.

How could you say no to this? Would bring a ton of attention to your program and bring great energy to your community.

Reminds me of when Rochester and SHG played their semifinal game on Friday night and were the only game in the state.

As if you and @SiuCubFan8 wouldn’t be tickled senseless if St Francis @ Morris on a Thursday night was happening.

The whole state watching your programs and then your staff and players get a weekend off.
My response was "Nah". It was my personal opinion and lines up with my schedule, routine, life etc.. It was a selfish response for sure.
I have no control IF anything like this happened and ya I probably would watch if I could.

Now unless ref situation improves, playing Thursday night game(s) will have to happen I would bet. And if they have to happen, sure, pick a game(s) a week or two earlier.

Nope. High School football was meant for Friday night. I hate Saturday games too.

This answer is always a head scratcher to me.

Fridays are great but if one game gets switched to a different day to be the only show in town with massive exposure and excitement … that’s freaking awesome for the kids/community.

Think the toughest obstacle will be if the field is already scheduled to be used by another sport that Thursday night.
Support staff and volunteers needed….I'm sure schools wouldn’t be thrilled to staff up Thursday when those planned for working Friday months ago. Just a thought, probably not a deal breaker but a thought.

Meh, doesn't really move the needle for me. Similar to when the Bears are on a Monday night, it just doesn't feel right.

I also wonder about some of the kids playing a game and then having to go to school the next day. There are teachers who would purposely schedule a test on that Friday just to spite the football team. Yes, that happens. My son came home from his homecoming game this weekend and had two hours to turn in a project that was being graded as a test ... teacher thought she was being generous because she gave them a one hour extension from the original due date since she knew there was a football game. Did I mention it was homecoming?

Was your son not given several weeks to work on said project like a normal project timeline? Sounds like your son might need some time management skills rather than dad bitching about it on a message board. Could be wrong though.

Kids play games on Mon-Thursday night in every other sport. It wouldn't be that big of a deal. That being said, I personally hate Thursday games in all sports when there is no game on Friday.

It was the 4th of 4 test segments that week in the class. And yes, he had it essentially done just tying up some loose ends. But the point wasn't about his readiness but that it was that it was due that night at all.

But, we'll keep working on those time management skills. Thank God you were around to inform me that was needed. ;)
