I’m starting to think the Iowa fanbase/Boosters just don’t care enough about the men’s program. We’ve got a top level coach now. Zero excuses.

Coach McCollum wants his teams to be competitive against everybody. The wins will then take care of themselves… always has. He knows he can coach. He doesn’t know he has unwavering funding support (from the athletic department and from NIL donors) to meet what he thinks is needed to accomplish his goals and most any player he wants. IF he feels he can’t get what he needs at Iowa to accomplish what he wants, he won’t be here for long…

It seems like moms desire for him to stay close to home is becoming a higher hurdle to clear. The offers are pretty similar, havent' heard of anything outlandish

which is why I really wanted Bill Self to retire after last season. That's the job that scares me the most when it comes open.

It’s not as big of a deal with the portal now but it’d be nice to finally land a big fish on the men’s team.

Ben wants to build the team from high school recruiting first. He will use the portal to fill in gaps like with Campbell and McKeever. Ben can pursue the big fish at point guard because we sit pretty well there. Just looked up the status on Combs now a 4th year player so he has two seasons left. He really likes Campbell and his son Peyton seems an interesting wild card.

We don't have a pressing need at point guard like we did at center. Ben can continue to build the program and potentially missing out on a big fish at the point doesn't mean much.

It is a big deal. A step 1 whiff on high school recruits leads you down one last road to travel (step 2) - the portal.

Then if you whiff on the portal hunt, you’re stuck.

Sticking with a basketball theme, I'm old enough to remember when Terry Cummings chose Depaul instead of Iowa because he had a dream and God told him to go to Depaul. I'm also old enough to remember when Isaiah Thomas chose IU instead of Iowa because Bloomington was closer to home than Iowa City (it's not).

I assume you mean Coleman? If so, I’d be disappointed if we’re hanging our hat on either of those two being game changers

Getting Daughtry is a game changer because he is different. Great ability to penetrate, a very good shooter from the arc and excellant distributor of the basketball. Cayden would bring a new dynamic to the Hawks.
