Has your opinion of Lebby changed

What a loser mentality. You can’t enjoy winning for a second without posting about a season 2 years from now. The majority on this board predicted we wouldn’t win more than 3 games this year. It’s never good enough for you pathetic 17’s. Misery loves company.
Agreed. If Kamario gives us two special seasons, things will take care of themself. Donations will increase, ticket and merchandise sells will increase, and QBs and WRs would want to be a part of this offense. Even with Shapen/OLs struggles last year, we averaged 30 points/game. Lebby's system will put points up with a decent QB.

I'm still not sold on him. He's still making boneheaded coaching decisions and clock management is as bad as it was in the first year.
You mean when he called the RPO before half and Taylor made the first two reads as runs. Or when he explicitly told Taylor not to take a sack and the young QB took the sack. Sure blame Lebby on the fact the QB made the wrong read. Some of you all just won’t ever like the guy. Sad. 4-0 and a percentage of our fans base don’t like the HC.

I'll like him when he gets us to 6 wins and does so again next year. This isn't the first time he's started a season 4-0. Granted it's better than last time.

Last year was a win over USM AzST NiU and Alcorn. This year. Wins over ULM @MINN @South Car and an undefeated Mizz team. They are not even close to the same

We still have Vandy OU AU and Tenn Tech at home. And don’t look now but OM is how I predicted them to be. Average

Exactly the same.
The play calls before half were horrendous. I don’t like but can live with an RPO on first down. I can’t on second when the first play was run.
Repeatedly going back to the sets where the RB out of the backfield is in the early (first?) reads was visiting the well way too often, particularly when Fluff was out.
I’m still waiting for the game where it feels like 4 quarters of Lebby at his best.

Lots of successful coaches are surprisingly bad at decisions at the ends of halves. That's not really disqualifying for being a good coach, although obviously it will always leave you with some "if only" games that turn what should be a great season into a good season, good season into an ok season, and so on down the line.

I'm feeling pretty good now. I always said that Lebby put himself behind the 8 ball at MSU hiring an inexperienced DC and I didn't think he'd be successful here because of it, but because his responsibility (the offense) showed flashes, it made me think he could be a solid head coach eventually, just probably somewhere else when he got a second chance. As opposed to someone like Croom where he just didn't bring anything to the table and would have had to be a relatively hands off manager of better coaches to be successful as a head coach.

The end of the first half last night was pretty awful. Yes, some of that was on Kamario, but you don't put a young QB in the position to burn that much clock with runs. A young QB taking a bad sack is pretty foreseeable, so you can't burn all your clock with running on first and second down. After the first run play, no more RPO; everything should have been a pass from there.

That said, we've generally looked pretty well coached to me. Whether Lebby is figuring things out or just having competent assistants helps or a combination of both, it doesn't look to me like coaching would stop us from winning big if we had the talent. We're really just a good LT and one wrecking ball on the DL from being dangerous as hell this year. Better players wouldn't have fixed the problems we had Lebby's first year. We were just atrociously coached.

In another thread I posted that the hype makes it hard to realize that K1 is a 19 year old first year starter . He is gonna make mistakes. Same with Lebby. He’s a 3d year HC that makes mistakes but he’s learning. End of the half clock mismanagement was on him and K1. I believe he’s getting better.

Let’s what I wrote in response to your original question…

I’m not answering the question until the season is over as Lebby has shown in-season regression in the past.

While he shows promise, let’s see how he navigates a full season with training wheels on his bike advisors first…

We’re only 4-0.

It ain’t the end of the season yet, and I’ll answer then…

Please remember we started 4-0 last year and ended the season with a 5-8 record.

I am too, but I also felt the same way about Dan Mullen. I kept waiting for the fired up killer instinct Mullen for 4 quarters. We rarely got it, but when we did, It was usually against an inferior opponent that we beat the hell out of. I can usually count on Lebby to at least be a threat to score from far within any 60 seconds on offense. Teams will have to get up big, late in the game to put this MSU team away safely.

There should never be any playcall acronym containing the words “run” and “option” called with under 45 seconds left on the 9 yard line, and no timeouts. Period.

Or when he explicitly told Taylor not to take a sack and the young QB took the sack.
That’s still somewhat on him, because it never should have come to that. And that play never even happens without a Mizzou injury. If he throws the ball on 1st and 2nd down like any other coach would, and we have 2 incompletions, a sack on 3rd down is still fine (albeit not ideal) because we’d have plenty of time to get the kicking team out there and get the kick away before the clock ran out.

Sure blame Lebby on the fact the QB made the wrong read. Some of you all just won’t ever like the guy. Sad. 4-0 and a percentage of our fans base don’t like the HC.
You don’t ask a 19 year old to make that read in that situation. The ball was on the 9 yard line. An 8 yard run to the 1-yard line is no different than taking a 10 yard sack there. When time is of the essence, you simplify things, not call plays that have more reads and are more complicated.

Lebby has grown a good bit, but he’s still struggling bigly with clock management, and its real clear those things are just going to be what they are at this point. He needs a clock coach in his headset, or he needs to turn over playcalling to someone else so he can focus more on situational management if he wants to fix this deficiency. He simply isn’t capable of doing both of those things to the level required.

My first answer in this thread still holds in its entirety. I'm still firmly on the fence.
