Guys I am afraid Jon Sumrall is awakening a sleeping giant at Florida. They stomped Ole Miss 52 to 28 today.

Sumrall not mine we have a better chance with stein and his connections in Louisville along with nil money . Miss has absolutely no defense and Florida's defense not much better we will score on them I like our chances
Yes UF is not going to stop what might be the best offense in the country. We'll hang 40 or so on them

I’m really happy with Stein. But, if Mitch hadn’t dragged his feet firing Poops, we could have at least offered Jon. He would have been a home run! The dude has won everywhere he’s been.
We couldn't fire Stoops because he had the second largest buyout on record in college football. A guy with a .500 career record. Let that sink in for a minute. Man, Mitch was a disaster.

What main talent did he bring with him? I know he hired the OC. That OC won’t be there long though. I like having an OC as head coach over a defensive guy personally.
Philo and Singleton for starters. He should absolutely get credit for the OC as well. You think if he brings in Faulkner he can’t go get another one if and when Faulkner gets a HC job? It’s hard to imagine anyone doubting Sumralls ability to acquire talent and coach given his track record.

I love Stein and think he was a very good hire. There was and is an element of “he’s never done this before” though. Not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing, but it is a thing.

The oc leaving will be the end of this sweet run. However long he can keep him will directly impact his tenure there. Until that happens having that offense with their defense is a great combo.
You think this is the only innovative OC Sumrall will be able to identify and hire as HC of the Florida Gators? That’s an interesting viewpoint given his career so far.

I said he’s a good coach for sure. Just said he wouldn’t be doing what he’s doing now at Kentucky imo. Wouldn’t have near the talent he has now.
That’s agreeable. I also think it’s fair to think he could do what Stein has done as well, and vice versa for that matter.

For his sake? Dude nobody and I mean nobody will pick UK to win that game other than the UK fans who never pick against UK. Florida will be at least a double digit favorite. Love Stein but we simply don't have the talent Florida has at the moment.
This is true. And six weeks from now, when that game is played, that lack of depth could be a real issue. Our 1s can compete. Our 2s and 3s are what really concerns me. Injuries aren’t an if in football, just a when.

We were a year late changing coaches. I posted here last season that Sumrall should have been the coach at UK.
If we need to make a change in basketball, Josh Shertz should be the one and only call. If Pope doesn’t have Kentucky playing up to our standard-make the move quickly.
Shertz 😂😂😂😂😂

I can PROMISE if the pope experience continues going sideways, the new ad won't make another "Popey" hire like shertz

Philo came with the OC. He was his backup at tech. I don’t doubt he will go after another OC like him. My concern with defensive minded head coaches is if the OC don’t hit every hire you are hurting. If your hc is the main OC type you don’t have that worry. Very hard to replicate an offensive scheme with changes. Easier for defense. I would’ve took either but I prefer an offensive minded HC any day.

He didn’t really identify him. He was a well known commodity that wanted to coach with his friend for a year or 2. Joe craddock will be his next OC.

People don’t see that though. They just think he has players there he would have same at Kentucky. The main guys at Florida except the qb were already there for the most part.
This speaks well of the Gator program and the firing of the prior coach. Sumrall brought in an offensive coordinators who understands how to put points on the scoreboard. He was able to get a maximum effort out of last year Gator players who remained. And he brought his QB with him.

If and when the OC leaves, Florida will find a high powered OC. Sumrall will make sure of that. Who wouldn't want to coach in the Swamp?

Not that easy to find ocs as good as stein or Faulkner. If it was everyone would have one.

Well said. If one watched the Florida - Ole Miss game you could tell any OC in America would love to be sitting in that chair. The fan support alone would be a draw to go there.

Sumrall is a great head coach to play for and he can recruit. If will always have an excellent OC

Yea tbe bamas and georgias thought the same until they started getting taken. It’s harder than you think it is to find a good one. Then they leave if they are

It won’t be Donovan or Oats or Pearl or Hurley guaranteed- and I’m glad none of those will be a candidate.
Shertz has won everywhere he’s been and won the last 2 conferences in his second season. My hope is that our admin can see real potential and make the right hire, not based on name recognition.
Most of the Florida fan base was negative about the Sumrall hire as he came from a small school.
You’re proof that some of our own don’t know any better.

Am glad we got Will, but UF is going to be a problem under JS.
Yes they will be. I certainly love what Coach Stein is building here but we won’t have anymore expected wins against Florida anytime soon. I loved those 5 win teams.

He’s good. It does make it easier to have in state talent to grab from but I fully believe ole miss, lsu, lville, etc are all average teams who are fringe top 25 but not playoffs by no means. Florida in the other hand is a top 15 in year one. He would have been great here but no better than what stein is doing. It’s why he’s coaching a place made for winning with access to any recruit he wants
Ole Miss is legit but they did get beat down. They may not be playoff good again, but they have enough to win 9-10 games.

Glad it’s not just me. The insert quote feature won’t work half the time and I also have to refresh the page everytime to make my notifications show up if I try to click on them.

The site has turned into a dumpster fire since On3 bought it from Rivals.

? But we basically did end firing him anyway. It was just 2-3 weeks later than it should have been because Mitch thought he was going to be able to get by another year without having to fire Stoops. The last 2 games were so bad that he was forced to make a change. By that time Florida signed Jon. That idiotic decision cost us Sumrall.

The boosters stepped up and were willing to finally pay it. Boosters run programs now.

So he doesn’t get credit for Philo because he came with the OC? What exactly does the HEAD COACH get credit for in all of this?

I said he’s obviously a good coach. I just prefer an offensive minded HC. It’s way harder replacing offensive side coaches than defensive. Look at tech this year. They are offensively awful without Faulkner. I also wanted to get away from Brad white and we did that as well not going after sumrall.

You make zero sense. I would say he is lucky his friend wanted to coach with him. You don’t see many coordinators at power 4 schools switch for the same position voluntarily.

Sumrall is a superstar. He'll win multiple titles at Florida. He will be great at UF for may years. Wish we would have fired Stoops a year earlier. I know the buyout money was crazy, we waited a year too long.

I am very happy with Stein.

It is but not by much if your goal is to be a head coach. Can achieve the same goal at tech. It was solely because they are good friends. Tech was offering same money as well.
Dude...it's an ACC team that caught lightening in a bottle (granted I think their HC is a good one) vs an SEC team. So he killed it at GA Tech last season, yes? Where was his name in the last cycle? He kills it at Florida as OC this season. Where do you think his name will be in the next cycles? Save the REALLY big jobs, he'll be mentioned for all of them. He wasn't going to get that at Tech.

You don’t pay attention to much outside of Kentucky football then. He’s been a hot name for a few years. He’s on the stein trajectory since he left UGA. He’s a great offensive mind and no matter the replacement at Florida it will be felt when he leaves. Having the right mind to call plays when needed isn’t easy.

By all accounts he was the UNC Athletic Director's favorite... until some political cronies in the Board of Trustees went behind the AD's back to negotiate with Belichick.

Soooooo, you don’t think he’ll be in a better spot for a head coaching job as Florida OC than GA Tech OC? And I’m the one not paying attention? Cool story.

No. He was already the hottest OC name on the market outside of stein. Doing it with way less talent at tech is just as if not more impressive than at Florida.
I’d be willing to bet he’s going to get a job equal to or better than GA Tech. Had he stayed at GA Tech, that likelihood would’ve been far less. Think of how many assistants take P4 jobs at a GA Tech type school. Then look at where they came from.
