Fun video that came across my feed today.

Was at that game as a junior in HS. Admittedly I was naive at the time and wore my red high school football jersey with my name on it.

Needless to say gotta lot of “Last name sucks” comments. Hehe

Me and my friend were in the field after the game - was awesome for a HS kid 16 years old !!

Great excitement for the game because it was one of the nationally televised games. Great game to be in the student section. Before the game a guy across the hall in my dorm created a banner using the university bed sheets (I can't repeat what he painted on it :p). As mentioned above I remember my roomate carrying part of the goal post thu downtown.

Still one of the top five all-time games at Beaver Stadium. I don’t remember it as a night game, though. I think it was a late afternoon kickoff. May have ended under the lights.
No lights in 1982 (unless they put them up temporary light specifically for this game, which I don’t think happened)

light came in’85, I believe, when BC/flutie played

Remember ‘Stone Hands’ Bowman making the catch like it was yesterday. I ended up 5 rows down and an unknown woman kissed me by the time the play was over.

My most vivid memory was walking out of the stadium and watching people on car roofs cheering replays of Fran Fisher’s call on radio.
LMAO, I had exact same experience, ended up several rows and got random kisses. I was a freshman, what a day that was!!

A few of you mentioned that The Clash, Santana, and The Hooters performed. I wasn't there, so I don't know the answer, but I've seen conflicting reported that Robert Hazard and the Heroes were also were part of the show.
According to this, the Friday show as cancelled. Robert Hazard was part of the tour, but not part of this particular stop. I don't remember Mick Jagger during the set.

CBS rented portable lights for the game. This is a well known fact.

Best game, hands down, I’ve ever been at in Beaver Stadium. And I’ve been to most of them since 1971 when I was a freshman. If the Stadium was configured then as it is now, it would have made 2005 Ohio State look like a funeral, and that was the second best game at the Beav.

It’s crazy to think I sat in the same seats in 1982 that I have now, just like it’s crazy to think we had the same coach from the time I was a freshman at Penn State until I was 58 years old.

One of my buddies from work up in Buffalo, who was a Pitt fan, wanted to go to the game. I told him I would bring him, but only if he promised to root for Penn State. He agreed to. The game was so riveting even he was going insanely crazy during the game.

After the game, we ended up on the field playing football using my now (then) empty Scope bottle, that somehow was filled with Seagrams 7 before the game. We played with a bunch of guys we didn’t know and have never seen since. It was mass chaos on the field (fun mass chaos).

After we finally left the Stadium, we went to my Fraternity house, and then to the Shandy Gaff Saloon. We BOTH could have EASILY gotten laid multiple times that night, but I was happily married to a Sorority girl whose Sorority sisters were part of the crazies we were partying with. Even at that, I got multiple spontaneous permissible kisses, none of which I had to request. He ended up with one of my wife’s hot Sorority sisters, which he ended up having a short term relationship with.

On the way home the next day, he kept raving to me that that was the absolutely GREATEST day of his entire life, and that he could never root fit Pitt again. From that day to this, he has been a loyal Penn State fan. 🙂

I was fortunate to be there in the student section. Unlike other games, when the final whistle sounded, everyone just stayed, standing in the stadium, taking in the moment. No one wanted to leave.
