Greg should get a standing O tonight for win number 100

Kudos to Greg Schiano on his hundredth victory in FBS football. He is only one of about ten active coaches who can claim such an achievement. The question is how much longer will he stay an active coach so he can hang on to this achievement.

since the discussion is about GSs 100th win - this is about his overall performance as a coach as a whole (both 1.0 and 2.0) - about his legacy

And imho you need to evaluate his overall performance in context (eg what he started with and built in 1.0; what he started with in 2.0). You can’t just say “mediocrity starts at 0.5000”)

to be fair, in the overall context of GS and what he did at RU (and he DID accomplish some things during 1.0) I think it’s more than fair to say that, overall, he has been atleast mediocre

So, deserving of a polite golf clap at this point

No standing O following a moribund win over hapless Howard, in front a Columbia University football size crowd. No. 100 should have been UMass, 101 BC, and 102 USC.

GS is 100-111 all time but if you exclude his 14-2 FCS record, he’s only 86-109 so a 44% winning %.

As a B1G in the B1G games he’s got a 30% winning %.

This is the narrative not he’s only 1 of like 5 guys with 100 wins at 1 program

The thing is you can excuse away the results from Greg 1.0. But you can’t use the same excuse for 2.0. Greg sought out 2.0. He needed RU more than RU needed him. 100 wins after 18 years is less of an achievement than it is a case study of an inept department. That values below average results.

The more graphics/stats you see on GS you realize how really below average he has been. 18 years as the head coach and he finally got his 100th win. 😳 That’s not good or deserving of praise. We all thank him for what he did twenty years ago in 2006, and made us respectable and not the laughingstock of college football. But now he’s come full circle, and the losses to UMass and BC have returned us to laughingstock status.

we are splitting hairs a bit here I think

I think - given all the RU-related factors - Schiano can be considered a “mediocre”coach. I guess you would say he “sucks”. Mediocre vs sucks. Neither a great word to be attached to your legacy

so maybe I give him more credit than you do on what he accomplished at RU (mostly 1.0 and a long time ago) . Whatever. It’s history now

I think we both agree There’s no chance he will get us over the hump in 2.0 .

So I’ll give him a polite golf clap as he walks out the door while you can booo if you want :) either way we’re both gonna be glad to see him go at this point

We agree more than we disagree. Greg did wonders first time around. Getting RU to a spot at respectability. But his second tenure has been less than stellar. And he is more to blame for those results than anything or anyone else. If this was anywhere else. He wouldn’t have been granted a second tenure. He wouldn’t have been extended. And he would have been fired before year 6 of this tenure.

Conference Record: 15-40 (0.273).
That's an average of 2.5 conference wins per season after six seasons.
Can't think of another program that would allow such a record for six seasons. Scott Frost was fired 3 games into season 5 at 10-26 (0.278)

Yet here we are. And some people that post here are saying he needs to be extended.

-We never run back a kickoff no matter what
-Our punt returners run away from the ball and rarely try to make a play
-we no longer block punts
-his strength is defense and yet he’s put out one of the worst FBS defenses for multiple seasons.
-2 years in a row of bungled defensive coordinator searches
-bungled portal haul despite having more resources this year.

overall this is a neutered program. No swagger, no pulse.

he needs to go
