Nevada's Steve Alford to retire after 2026-27 season, concluding prolific 36 year coaching career
Alford, who has won over 700 games at the college level, will retire after this season
Haaa, nice one.Wonder if Ben thinks Iowa is a Football school?
very .different times as most programs are shuffling players every year no matter what. Stability / HS recruiting doesnt mean as much nowI don't get it. Why announce now? Is this another 'quiet forced retirement', like Dr. Tom? And didn't the year in advance announcement tank Iowa's recruiting? Again, doesn't make a lot of sense.
I could have sworn he made one at UCLA, but alas my memory was wrong. 3 Sweet Sixteens there, plus the one at SWMS. None at Iowa, New Mexico, or Nevada. No elite eight appearances if gemini is correct. Ben already has him beat IMO...
Question posed to me and sadly I think I may go with Alford. But whose coaching career would you rather have had with their resumes. Fran or Alford?I could have sworn he made one at UCLA, but alas my memory was wrong. 3 Sweet Sixteens there, plus the one at SWMS. None at Iowa, New Mexico, or Nevada.
He’s going to go down as one of the all time greatly forgettable coaches in NCAA history. Except for the whole defending a rapist and forcing the victim to “pray it out” thing. I hope he gets the retirement he deserves for that one.
Fran’s career at Iowa was far superior to Alford’s. Alford had success getting to the NCAAs at NM, a much easier conference to win in, and at UCLA, a much easier school to recruit to.Question posed to me and sadly I think I may go with Alford. But whose coaching career would you rather have had with their resumes. Fran or Alford?
