Well they’re basically looking for the same arrangement they wanted when they left. It’s for football only. If they could have just kept football there in the first place it would be there now and the rest in the Big East. I think that was pretty much a non starter then so not sure what would’ve changed to make that arrangement more amenable for the American now.

FYI it’s called the American Conference now not American Athletic Conference.

Crazy thing is UConn is prob a middle of the conf ACC football team, would be competitive in Baseball and soccer, and would be top 1-2 in basketball.
Yes, very true but football drives the bus and for an "independent" not named Notre Dame, it's a losing hand. The ACC isn't going to add them. Do they add any $$$ to the ACC bank account or would they just be another mouth to feed.

Just wondering how much is their past baseball success because of schedule? The ACC has very good teams that likely do it with a tougher schedule. Last season UConn's RPI was 100 and SOS was 142. RU RPI was worse at 124 with a SOS of 89. The ACC had 9 teams with an RPI 50 or better and only 1 above 100.

Lol they aren't important enough to make a Notre Dame-esque arrangement with the American like having half their basketball games be vs American teams to make up for parking a crappy football program in it.

I suppose they saw Northern Illinois join the MWC as a football only member and thought let’s try the American again.

The American doesn’t really need them at the moment and JMU would be a better option if they’re not going to bring their basketball teams. They’re better off trying the MAC, Sac State is a football only member in the MAC. Not sure if travel for that would be any better than the American.

I have been thinking about this idea for a while and it makes to much sense for it not to happen.....

The minimum amount of team you can have in an FBS conference is 8. These schools need to create their own football conference, and they can put their other sports in different conferences.

VERY regional and I think the conference champion every year would be the best G6 champ. Outside of Temple you would have schools with very passionate fanbases that fill up stadiums.

UCONN (Big East)
Army (Patriot)
Navy (Patriot)
Liberty (ASUN)
James Madison (CAA)
Temple (A10)
Marshall (Horizon)
App State (SoCon)

Other possible additions: ECU, Delaware or ODU.

JMU already wants to leave the Sun Belt. You can convince App and Marshall to join you.

Similar to UCONN, Temple basketball is dying being in the American. Its time they think about going back to the A10.

Liberty would leave C-USA in a heartbeat.

Tim Pernetti is AAC AD and after experiencing ND Big East era where they were a leach, he’s not going to bite on UConn football only. Cant have it both ways Uconn. Honestly they should be serious with themselevs and drop football down to Big East level whatever conference Villanova and Georgetown play in and go all in on basketball like those schools

Agree no way ACC adds them. They could join the MAC or CUSA as the American is pretty awful with who is in there now vs before

Maybe I missed them, but after driving through Illinois a few times, there ain't no mountains there, and Illinois is not "West", it's midwest. But when California teams are now in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Texas Teams are in the "Southeast" Conference, and most players probably would fail geography, all these conference names are meaningless now.

I want to go back and find the post where I said that Yukon moving to the Big East was overall a bad move but it's probably lost in the site transfer.

American basketball isn't that much worse than Big East and having an independent football team is death unless you're Notre Dame

By trying to save their precious basketball programs, they all but ensured mid majordom as a football program. Like you said, only ND can survive as an Indy in football.

Or the big ten has 18 teams
PAC 12 has 8
Big 12 has more than 12

all just ridiculous

UConn makes as much sense in the AAC as they would the Mountain West. American is a Texas conference now, basically CUSA of 10 years ago. Temple is the northeast outlier. Uconn playing North Texas, ECU, Tulsa, would kill their basketball and other sports

Yeah I think it's pretty much true. At the time they left though it was much better bball conference but now it's basically garbage

The move to big east basketball immediately made UConn a top team once again

At least they have that. No way should they put their BB back in the AAC.

LOL at the Connvicts. They would be near the bottom of the ACC. I can't think of a single ACC team they could beat except for maybe Sorrycuse. They got blown out by Maryland to start their season. I'm guessing they're having a hard time scheduling teams except for suckers like us.

I'll bet money the next coach we hire cancels that UConn series. Nothing to gain acknowledging them especially on the road.

Especially on the road. I'd have gone with one home game vs them just to show them where they are in the pecking order. I visited their board and they're fans aren't too enthused about the prospect of groveling in front of Pernetti for a spot in the AAC for football only. But they acknowledge it's getting harder and harder to schedule teams with a pulse to play them. I hope the AAC shuts them out.

Believe UConn was asking about joining AAC for football only. If AAC says no they should try Sun Belt, CUSA or MAC

They had conversations with the Pac-12 about joining as a football only member before the Pac-12 decided to add Texas State. The Pac-12 never made them an offer.
