It's not about others having to accept my beliefs. You know as well as I do that teachers provide sound guardrails for students with ample room within to develop independently. Those guardrails include tried and true processes for critical thinking, safety, and being decent community members. You know as well as I do that some of our proudest moments are when students demonstrate creativity and independence within that context that has broader benefits to society. It builds our confidence in the future that kids are not just parroting back to us our own opinions. I'm well aware that this forum isn't my classroom and no one here is my student, but there are habits and skills that have crossover applications. It's bewildering and annoying how frequently you assume otherwise about me when we have so much common experience.
