Can we get

thought TJ was “going to put guys in a better position to make plays”??
He can put guys in position, but when the talent you are given included a #1 CB that looks 5'8 and was basically cut by Maryland, there is only so much he can do. I've said it before, sadly we'll never know if hes a good coach while he's here. Brock is probably the best answer.

The blonde, curly haired guy that has the hold Greg back on the sidelines job that kind of reminds me of PJ Hayes. I see him so much during games anyway that they could just continue showing him on the sidelines, minus Greg of course, just refer to him as head coach, easy for the broadcast.

Okay...you constantly and consistently post ignorance nonsense about lax...what's the deal here? A few lax guy bully you in high school? Steal your prom date? Gotta be something because you can't possibly be this ignorant.

Let me clue you in real quick:

D1, D2 and D3 - high level collegiate athletes who played at the best high schools around the nation and some of whom will eventually play professionally. Most have a partial athletic scholarship and/or get paid otherwise (NIL/academic $$$) Coaches and staffs make plenty of $$$ and have the full support of their athletic departments. Play in front of thousands during the regular season and 10's of thousands on Memorial Day Weekend. See: Guys like @Caliknight @mdk02 and a few others around here played for Rutgers.

Club Lax - No coaching. No fans. No money. Essentially guys like me freezing their asses off on the Livingston Rec Fields at 11PM on a Tuesday evening in Feb/March. See: guys like me.
When do you hit 100,000 posts?

Original Knight wasn’t, isn’t and never will be an athlete. He doesn’t understand D1 athletics or athletics of any kind. It’s quite embarrassing for him.

Not inevitable, sadly. The only thing he’s good at, no actually great at, is artfully keeping his job with excuses, promises, stupid axioms. Snake oil salesman hall of fame.

Problem is the Defense should be progressing under a new DC which it is clearly not. Saying we had some “success” by stopping USC twice the whole game vs. 9 stops combined by powerhouses San Jose St. and Fresno St. ( both games on the road at USC) is underwhelming.
Needs to be given an opportunity to bring in his type of guys both in recruiting and in the portal.

KC brought in Athan and it saved him after the Wimsett debacle.

Having players continually in the wrong position has nothing to do with “bringing his type of guys”. We have seen this all too long with recent DCs. And evaluating starting talent. How is #41 on the field?

Greg will announce retirement after this year, in a few weeks. Kids will play for him and win a few.New coach (Kelly) lined up for next year but only announced in Nov. Everyone keeps screaming till then. We finish 4-8. Howard, Maryland, Michigan State and finally Penn State.

Disagree players good enough and smart enough to be on the field and understand what to do.

Listen he could be an awful DC but he serves at least 1 off season to bring in his system guys.

Hell we keep giving Schiano year after year and he has proven over and over to be terrible

The team and players are far better off if the current staff stays as it is as long as possible. The kids still strongly support their coaches (apparently), so there is no need to panic. They will play better and learn more.

Firing him now and bringing in an interim coach is great for all the "Fire the Coach" crowd's egos, but the players lose so much knowing everything is now in disarray.

Doubt if this crowd understands.

everything is in disarray now.
But I doubt an interim HC would make things better.
I can't think of anyone on the staff that could make things better.

They are fighting for next year’s NIL if they are in the portal.

Also, what do you mean bring in an interim coach? It will be someone on the staff like Brock slot Ciarocca. It won’t change much.

It likely won’t make things better but that’s not the goal. If that happens, great. The goal is what it says to the college football playing world. Losing like Greggo does won’t be accepted at Rutgers. Keeping him states the opposite.

These aren’t kids anymore. They are pro athletes some of whom are making 7 figures. They are expected to perform and are getting paid to do so regardless of who has the headset on.

I’m not following. Your sending the same message in a couple months when the season ends. Your not suggesting that canning him right now would allow Zinn to raise immediate funds between now and the end of the season that she couldn’t otherwise get are you? Nobody is investing in us until a new coach is announced anyway. And firing him sooner isn’t opening the door to more higher caliber candidates now either because the best options are all currently employed and if the plan is Kelly, it’s done and Greg riding out the season isn’t changing that either.

You keep saying all this but practically speaking, the reason it makes sense to you to fire him now is simply that you want him gone.

I am saying that. There are multiple million dollar brand deals at stake. These potential partners want to know they are investing in something that at minimum strives to be great. Further, getting a head start on actually replacing him is paramount. There is a reason teams fire coaches in season. And this is why. Waiting accomplishes nothing and actually hurts the program. Better to be first than last.

I said something similar to this last week. Announcing his retirement at the end of the season will give him a soft landing which I know some of you don't think he deserves. I can see Kelli and Tate telling him to choose between retiring and being fired. The admin can then start the search early.

Retiring would save the buy out. Under that specific scenario I’d be for allowing him to finish the season. Would also allow time for Keli to have off the record discussions.

Agree 100%, But, I see no incentive for Greg to retire. From a practical standpoint, he still has to finish-up adulting his own kids (college, grad, weddings, houses, start-up funds, etc.), let alone consider his legacy for grandkids. Salvaging his reputation isn't worth the buy-out. Better to get fired and walk away with cash.

Perhaps a negotiated settlement behind closed doors would make the “retirement “ option work out for both sides.

Agreed. I think that scenario is highly unlikely. Like, Lloyd Christmas had a better chance with Mary Swanson.

Schiano has always cared about Schiano more than anything. Helping the school out that gave him wealth and opportunity won’t be high on his list. I bet in his stubborn delusional mind, he truly believes he’s the guy.

Agree with all of this - especially the last part and that’s why there’s a non-zero chance of reality being a hybrid arrangement. He goes into Zinn (or maybe already did) and bets on himself.

His message is simple (and to your last point - he actually believes it). Don’t give up on me now - I can and will turn this around. I will take this team bowling (or win a certain number of games - I’m not speculating on the extent he’d bet on himself but he is arrogant so I think he might do something like this). If I don’t you have my assurance I’ll retire at the end of the season. She wouldn’t (and shouldn’t turn that down). Money is important to him but I do think he has his pride and wouldn’t want his RU career to end where it is right now.

I don't think there is any way he steps down. He truly believes, as Cali stated, that he is the only guy for this job and he is right on the cusp of a big season. It has always been something else he needs to succeed. New practice facilities, new training center, more luxury boxes, bigger stadium, more support, a helicopter, more money for coaches, more money for him, and now NIL. Greg is an optimist to the end. He won't be seen as a quitter. And I am someone who likes him and feel bad its going to end poorly. None of what I said is an attack. I thought he was the guy as well. Sad at this point

Has to be on him too at this point. We knew we’d be bad but we’re a good deal worse than last year. And we ranked dead last in FBS last year too - or close to it in almost every metric. Getting materially worse was hard to do.
Makes zero sense! He cane into the bad portal choices by Greg! Lost its top talent to other power 4 schools and he recruited no one on the field. The defense is bad has improved game over game.

Once again the DC may not be the answer but he deserves a year to bring in his guys before you can truly judge.

Oh sure - I’m not saying he couldn’t be successful in a different situation but the D has simply looked lifeless which is still in part a reflection on him too. They actually played with the most energy of the season late against Howard with all the subs in. His job is still to get the most out of what he has.
