I think it was Needham with Everett Small at LT.
Yeah...i think that's what I saw. But Vigna got lots of playing time.I think it was Needham with Everett Small at LT.
Everett Small or Chris Vigna ?

Needham not quick enough for LT but did pretty weell at LG. The rearranging and addition of Smalls has improved the OL. SC game was nothing like Needham being rushed around at UMASS.
It’s unbelievable and easily sits in first place for any argument for Greg’s “immediate” dismissal. What that OL looked like in game one after a controversial position coaching change is truly beyond the pale.I don’t understand why the OL lineup wasn’t solidified by the end of training camp. They were working on it since the spring.
Schiano parted ways with an outstanding OL Coach. Brilliant!I don’t understand why the OL lineup wasn’t solidified by the end of training camp. They were working on it since the spring.
Maybe a thin stable of horses? Maybe defense was being crafty? I was not familiar with this year's OL when I watched the 18 minute highlights but I kept seeing this RU #56 OL getting run over and run around. As a former OL I felt bad for his film reviews with coaches because that was going to be rough session. I know he's not a rookie and seems better now? UMass might have been crafty since 56 was expecting one rush (98) and got another (95 ran past him).I don’t understand why the OL lineup wasn’t solidified by the end of training camp. They were working on it since the spring.
.Not buying it. Or in the least, not the timing. We were overhauling an entire D and breaking in a new QB. To say the OL could’ve benefitted from stability is an understatement. It was a really bad situational decision. That’s not to say over time Turner wouldn’t or couldn’t do a good job, but this year was an awful time to insert someone new there.Flats wasn't able/willing to get on the road and recruit, they needed someone who could do all parts of the job.
Basically what happened was our D was so bad that it fooled the staff into thinking certain things on offense that worked against them would be effective vs anyone else. Regardless, you cannot have Raymond on your team and only manage to rush for 30 yards against UMass. We already know what Raymond is so therefore the OL was the glaring problem in the game. The worst performance of the season by far. And yes that includes the 4 TO QB games.Needham was the weak link on last season's starting OL. I was surprised when he started the season at left tackle, but there was a lot of talk about the improvement he had made since last season. I gotta take this kind of talk with a grain of salt in the future.
Don't recall you saying this when Flats left. Not buying it. Or in the least, not the timing. We were overhauling an entire D and breaking in a new QB. Won't matter the whole staff will be gone as will a fair amount of the roster.Needham was the weak link on last season's starting OL. Early season changes along the OL is not unusual. RU had 3 Seniors starting on the OL last season (LG Brian Felter, C Gus Zalinkas, and RT Taj White). Three games and three different starters at LG indicates they were unable to get that position solidified as they would have liked in camp. Hopefully Small and Needham will solidify the left side of the line for the rest of the season. Of the 7 who have started on the line in the first three games, only Small (Jr) and Vigna (So, opening day LG) are not Seniors.I don’t understand why the OL lineup wasn’t solidified by the end of training camp. They were working on it since the spring.
I'm not confident that Rutgers has the financial resources to terminate the head coach and buy out the whole staff and also have enough dinero to afford to hire a new head coach and a whole new coaching staff. Where would this money come from ?Won't matter the whole staff will be gone as will a fair amount of the roster.
The UMASS pass rusher was even slow… man our #56 looks very overmatched..even against this level.Maybe a thin stable of horses? Maybe defense was being crafty? Fair enough but you wouldn’t be getting all this talk if they didn’t. It would be getting phrased differently.I'm not confident that Rutgers has the financial resources to terminate the head coach and buy out the whole staff and also have enough dinero to afford to hire a new head coach and a whole new coaching staff. Richie alluded to Flats not wanting to deal with Schiano's micromanagement and grinding style anymore. Not buying it. Or in the least, not the timing. Too late for Schiano, but all coaches should try and mirror Cig. Two hours of hard practice. That's a player's max capacity for learning.
The DC hire led to such a weak portal haul. It was the biggest need of the offseason. The d was a complete wreck. Arguably the worst in the country. Schiano needed to hire a capable DC asap and hit the portal hard for D players. Transfers want to know who their coordinator will be. At least any with potential. None of that happened. And it was what really needed to. Those events sealed Schiano’s fate. At the end of the day, Schiano’s hard driving reputation led to his ultimate failure.Whatever the reason I consider it the biggest mistake of the offseason by a mile. And the impact the delay in DC had on the portal haul was bad, but I honestly don’t think we lose UMass (or the game is ever remotely danger) even with the terrible defense as long as we could’ve run the ball at all in game one. Lonergan wouldn’t have been under pressure and maybe the injury doesn’t happen. We still in that case could’ve won the second game. That’s not to say we wouldn’t still stink but the glaring disaster level situation is directly attributable to the change in leadership at OL. That game is a win with Flats. Period.
