OT: The 2026-27 Iowa Hawkeye athletics season officially kicks off tonight in Iowa City

Iowa loses 1:3. They will play again on Sunday, but that game will count as a non-conference game. The main thing though, Iowa lost to an unranked team at home, badly.

Darn, #2 Iowa field hockey is down 0:2 at home vs Indiana early in the 3rd quarter. They will have to pull a second half come back again. Indiana is near the perennial doormat status in the Big Ten.

Indiana won’t make the NCAA Tournament.

Only 18 teams make the NCAAT, so yes, Iowa will make the Sweet Sixteen.

They’re 7-1, so nothing has is hurt whatsoever. Outside of Northwestern, who hasn’t necessarily been dominant, no one has played lights out in every single game so far.

Iowa is a top 4-5 team for sure.

UPSET ALERT: Hawkeye soccer just scored to go up over the #8 Buckeyes 1-0 just before the half. Hawks dropped out of the rankings going 0-1-3 with their trio of elite players leading Canada to the FIFA U-20 Quarterfinals missing, but they’ve been all over tOSU in Columbus with them back, barely letting the Buckeyes out of their half. Last year’s NCAA D-II Player of the Year, defender Sarah Batchadji, smashed home a corner that fell to her feet.

Didn't end up well. Iowa is still winless in the Big Ten. It's still relatively early in the season, but there is a possibility that they don't qualify for the Big Ten tournament.

#6 Iowa field hockey beat #15 Michigan 2-1 in OT in Ann Arbor. Iowa had the early lead but Michigan scored with 5 or 6 minutes to go to tie the game. In OT Michigan appeared to get a winner, but it was overturned after a review. Two minutes later, Iowa scored off a pinpoint pass from behind the 25-yard line to win it.
