This makes sense.. probably why they had to let strong leave as well. Maybe keeping Raymond, duff, asamoah was 40% of the budget. 🤔 In this new age, you have to be able to manage a budget as well. Ignore the emotions of wanting to keep your stars and prioritize building a competent roster. Until the big bucks start rolling in and then you can retain potential 1st round draft picks. Good lesson for the next coach at Rutgers lol
Strong was offered $1 million but his agent saw what Diff got and convinced Ian he could get more in the portal. The agent was very wrong.

The other thing is that for Ian to improve his draft stock he had to go somewhere where he was WR1. So he got less money but a better QB situation at Cal.

Funny thing is that with a worse QB situation Duff has double the catches and yards Ian does. So it will be interesting to see how much his stock improves if at all. While KJ’s is climbing.

Then how come you didn't call out that AJ and Dylan were bad before the season started
Because he thought that Greggo pulled a coup luring BCUs starting QB, only to be proven Greggo did BCU a favor allowing them to save money on a D2 QB and still beat Greggo. Another great evaluation and cap space allotment by Greggo.

Is this seriously a rumor going around? Because it doesn't make sense how Rutgers gets all of these lower level transfers year after year. Even this year with over 20 million the starting linebackers transferred in from Drake and rice. While UMass spends 4 million and has power four transfers all over the field. They even had a set of twin defensive lineman from Indiana. What is that about?
It’s not a rumor or true. It’s feasible in the mind for one reason. Schiano sucks that bad that it’s hard to believe he has all that money and still loses to UMass and BCU. It doesn’t seem possible, but with Schiano at the helm, it very much is.

Don’t you feel pathetic making up lies and trolling my threads? I’m embarrassed for you.

I wouldn’t spend this amount of effort on you. And for the record, I belong to the arguably the best tailgate at Rutgers. We’ve been featured on the scoreboard. Unlike Caliknight, people love me, which is why he’s jealous.

@Caliknight wouldn’t be allowed within 500 yards of our tailgate because he’s an ahole . But thanks for the free rent in your head.
Right. Everyone was making up lies about you. I’m sure that’s what’s happening.

Most support he ever had here and he faceplanted in epic fashion.

Vertical alignment doesn’t accept losing to two teams with significantly less NIL because at the end of the day it was about poor planning, preparation and coaching by this staff.

He can’t allocate funds properly. We get it. You don’t have to keep illustrating it. He had 2x BCU and UMass combined and still failed. Guy is a complete loser. Going to be fun watching SC embarrass him again.

You and @-RUFAN4LIFE- remind me of Statler and Waldorf, the judges from the muppets.

He shouldn’t be allocated funds in the first place. We need a General Manager.

He thinks he’s the GM lol. Maybe instead of hiring for the assistant to the assistant DB coach, he could have hired a real GM. But the little guy likes power. He needs to control all of that. And as we know, he has no idea what he’s doing.

I won’t say what you remind me of but it rhymes with rung.

How does the lack of a GM explain losing games to teams that were a combined 2-22 who spent a fraction of the amount RU spent on players?
Miami has a GM, and got a quarterback who is ready to win the Heisman. We shopped the bargain bin and got a quarterback who couldn’t stop himself from turning the ball over to the other team. We got what we paid for.

Every name you mention above were not highly recruited except Duff. The big issue is that he no longer is developing recruits you mentioned above. More NIL would have not moved the needle on any of the recruits except maybe Duff

The biggest issue is we’re not landing the caliber of recruits with the potential to be developed like the aforementioned. More NIL would increase our ability to attract better recruits

RU didn't need a GM to beat teams that won zero and 2 games last season. And that bargain bin QB didn't have a problem with turnovers until he got here.

We need a GM to beat the rest of the big ten. There’s too much work for a head coach to be heading up the effort. Speaking to agents, speaking to kids. Our portal efforts clearly went to pot as we were hiring a new DC.

Amazing the newest story is how we went shopping in the bargain bin for the QB. Portal opened Jan 2 and Lonergan was signed on Jan 5. Moved pretty quickly to lock up a qb that was in the bargain bin. He was not someone we didn’t want. We outbid BC for him. There were many lower ranked and higher ranked QBs still available. He was prioritized. If he wasn’t we could have delayed the process. Much like Greg delayed the process to bring in qualified DC candidate. What’s funny is in the BC game the announcers blew up the narrative regarding that search process also.

Maybe she’ll fix it by firing Pike after being sick with cancer this season and granting Greg a mulligan for his 1-11 debacle. That’ll go over well with at least one fan.
As long as they are .500 or a few games over, he's getting another year. Of course, if he has another Central CT like debacle and they struggle against weak OOC teams then the calculus changes. At least, on paper, it seems like they have a better roster, especially in the middle.

So that's the excuse for getting stomped at home by a team that was winless the previous year? Or getting beaten by a team that was 2-10 with a QB from D2? These losses, like many of the losses in the B1G, are directly attributable to poor coaching.

There’s no way Zinn is looking to eat two contracts at the same time. Financially, it would just handicap us tremendously.

To have a comparably poor season to where football is trending (percentage wise), Pike’s team would have to underperform Eddie Jordan’s last team (7 wins). That’s not going to happen. Sure - we could easily lay an egg or two non-conference, but the team isn’t winning less than 10 games. We win 10 games even if every transfer is a bust. We may not have superstars but a 4 guard small ball line up with our returning guards and Buchanan at center without any subs at all would still win a greater percentage of our basketball games than where football is headed.

Combine that with Pike being sick and not a available at full strength for 2026-27 and there is no chance Greg would be retained if the choice had to be made between the 2. Not with the 0-2 start.

Do you realize what a coaching change means?
it means we lose roughly at least 55 scholarships kids, perhaps more. This would be a disaster, because our fanbase sure ain’t reaching into their pockets to replace them. When it comes to opening their wallet, the fanbase is all talk. It is more prudent to develop the kids we have this year, especially the quarterbacks, and then hit the portal hard, especially for a set of Offensive Tackles and Defensive Ends.

Losing 50 players from this program is part of what will make it better.

Several schools have done it recently including VT last year with Franklin. It's also a way to drum up more funds if the fan base is excited to get behind the new coach. That said, I don't see them going that route either. Just wondering which G5/FCS hot shot it will be.

Not if we don’t have adequate funds to replace them. This is a shtshow waiting to happen.

Realize also that Al initially credited UMass for bringing in all those transfers and a "great QB" after our loss to them. But needing to sign 50 new players to RU after a coaching change would be a disaster. We don't have the NIL money to replace them even though #11 BYU, #16 SMU, #17 Utah, #18 Iowa, #22 Houston, and #25 Virginia (and #28 Boise State) are spending roughly the same or less than RU is.

Perhaps a significant roster turnover with a coaching change would be a good thing. RU had a manageable schedule this season. Start 3-1 with the loss to USC was a strong possibility. Indiana likely drops RU to 3-2 followed by winnable games at Maryland and Northwestern. Finishing with Michigan, at Wisconsin, Nebraska, at Penn State, Michigan State would make 7-5 attainable. Instead we are probably looking at 1 -- 3 wins. Rutgers should have been no worse than 5-7 with a chance to make a Bowl game.

You’re assuming that it’s coming out of the operating budget and not fund raised to specifically cover the costs.

They are doing lots of fund raising right now for NIL, projects and other needs.

I’m assuming that regardless, money is fungible and it’s simply not realistic to turn both programs over start to finish at the same time. Even if basketball has an awful season, there’s now a built in excuse to run it back for at least one more time (worst case scenario) without looking like a complete joke. As awful as it was to hear Pike is sick, the news simplifies things at the top.

There is no way, Iowa is spending similarly in NIL to us. Iowa football sells out a 69K stadium and has between 48K and 52K season tickets. Their athletic department brought in $24M in donations last year. In our best year, we brought in $12M in donations last.

Rutgers isn’t capable of fundraising significant amounts of money to buy out coaches contracts. It’s literally never been done before. Until it’s been confirmed that amounts have been fundraised, it is prudent to assume that the amounts will come out of the operating budget.

You assumed the worst from my premium thread, which said, put aside the fact that Pikiell is sick. (We are obviously all praying for his speedy recovery)

Doesn’t Schiano deserve the same mulligan that Steve was granted? Steve’s mulligan was granted before his medical condition was known. And I’m fine with it. This year we pulled in a much better bb transfer portal class because we had money.

Football should be in the same position in January, so Schiano deserves the same opportunity. And I believe I read from you that you said that Schiano deserves a mulligan. So we’re actually in agreement.

At the end of the day, their QBs outplayed ours, by a large margin. Coaches shouldn’t be expected to transform chickenshit into chicken salad right away. These kids have to be developed.

The kids are working to get better and they should be better at the end of the season. With hindsight being 20/20, we should have paid up for a good quarterback with a strong track record. UVA paid roughly $2M for Beau Pribula. Penn State paid a good amount for Rocco Becht. Indiana supposedly spent $4M on Josh Hoover. Successful quarterbacks cost money.

Listen head muppet, you’ve just highlighted reason 78 why Greg is losing his job. He made the choice to not have a real GM, no one else.

Stop being his fck boi stooge.
You’re such a 🤡. If hiring a General Manager fixes our talent acquisition issues, it’s a lot better than burning everything down. If we burn it down, we may never be able to build it back up. Who is going to write the $30M check, you? Don’t make me laugh.

🗣️ Last year was the mulligan, Illinois time out was the mulligan. He had more support building this roster than ever before. Over 20 million, he chose to lease 3 Lamborghinis and fill the rest of the lot with Prius's, used ones at that, from the 2010s...this is the roster schiano bragged about, the oline depth that he raved about, the violent linebackers that are "bad dudes" from rice and drake. He might have dementia now because he scouted and recruited this roster then watched them in the spring, then summer camp and thought this would be a good team. He's lost his marbles

Highly rated recruits like mcclary and Archie? We will never know if they can play, because in the practice where ty morris and Sean Allison are violent bad dudes making plays, apparently these highly rated recruits can't play to the point that Sean Allison and Morris not only start but one is a captain! When these were the linebackers they brought in, I was sure mcclary and Archie would start..I don't think they have even gotten into a game this year..
