This is the best depiction of NIL values I’ve seen, and though it may not be absolutely accurate, it is relatively accurate and shows why it has been so difficult for us to compete. It’s taken from the Athletic.

Illinois and Iowas NIL values are probably understated. We are in the ballpark with Maryland and ahead of Minnesota and Purdue sounds right. We are well behind everyone else, sounds right. BC having the least NIL sounds right. Very interesting

Pretty much what every one on here has been saying. No real differential in spending on the middle 7-8 teams.
  1. UCLA – $26-30M
  2. Maryland – $22-25M
  3. Michigan State – $21-25M
  4. Northwestern – $21-25M
  5. Washington – $21-25M
  6. Rutgers – $20-23M
  7. Illinois – $19-23M
  8. Minnesota – $18-22M

I’ve often said nothing is fully accurate because info isn’t publicly available but vicinity and relative positions could be more accurate.

Also I’ve seen some say NIL and revenue share are different. It’s all the same essentially, saying NIL can be just a short form way of saying total compensation available for paying players. Whether you call something NIL or revenue share, it’s all about the total compensation budget.

Some notes from the article.

Very few inside the program know the exact numbers.

Coaches will undersell their budgets when talking to media.

Admin will try to inflate their numbers to make it look like they fundraiser well.

Behind the curtain they all like to say their competitors have a lot more so they can ask their boosters and admin for more money.

What’s interesting is you discredited another poster for saying his numbers were wrong regarding the UMass qb because he used estimates value. Yet here you are using the same data to justify your obsession. Which one is it? Is it reliable or is it not?
My 20 years of estimating experience says his number is BS, especially when you consider how he played. There’s ballpark, and then there’s pulling a number out of your *** because you don’t know wtf you’re doing.

A player isn’t accepting $153K when the market is a lot more.

The numbers depicted above are ballpark reasonable and good enough.

Relative positions are good enough for this purpose

so… SIX of Rutgers opponents this year have similar or less funds to spend on their football team. No excuse for GS to say NIL is the reason they are underperforming.

At the end of the day, a good coach is paid to elevate the talent he has and overachieve. That has yet to happen the past 2 seasons.

Seems to be a poorly constructed roster given the available resources. Talent level has declined from what it was a few years ago (Duff, Raymond are exceptions). Very bad reflection on the talent evaluators . Iowa just keeps doing their thing no matter the circumstances.

I’m not going to discount your estimating experience in your respected field of expertise. But your 20+ years of posting history devalues your football estimating expertise. Apparently his value landed him at UMass. If his value was more he would be on another higher level roster. Not the roster of the previous years worst team. And UMass has a total NIL roster value of 3M. So I’m thinking the number being shared is more than likely lower than the reported number. The number he reported wasnt pulled out of his arse. It was reported in a similar article you’re now claiming to be an accurate account. You can’t have it both ways.

As usual, it's good for one argument but not valid for another similar one.

Despite this article, we all know we would lose to tiny NIL and new or relatively new FBS programs like JMU, App State and NDSU. Boise State would beat us as would nearly every team grouped around RU on that chart.

Thank you AI for making our point that RU is underperforming relative to our NIL position.

We are nowhere near 46th best . Maybe 92nd.

This is the best “Greg must go” justification I’ve seen in a while.

Exactly! Didn’t make the case he thought he did. Was more damaging to his argument when you see the graphic.

It’s yet to happen ever under Schiano.

Even the article says BC is between $8-13MM and we lost both games!!!!
DeadbeatAl isn’t very bright. He’s spun completely out of control here. He’s been reduced to posting information that discredits his own positions. Money matters when a team has more than Rutgers. When we lose to teams with less than, it’s a bunch of other issues.

The most concerning thing about Schiano is the more money he has and the more time he’s able to spend coaching, the worse the program is getting.

Iowa has real coaches. At least on defense.

and if we're near the top of our range and they are the bottom we're actually #10 of 18. And not a statistical issue per se and where coaching is supposed to matter. Not to mention HOW and WHERE you spend those $$$$.

Also, since Rev Share is like $17-18MM that means outside $ for Pay to Play is only $3-6mm? What happened to all the "amazing work" being done there?

And for the millionth time... if this is really the issue holding RU back from beating teams like UMass and BC.... there are SO MANY ways Rutgers could re-structure things to generate more NIL. But no, they'd just rather push this out in hopes of crying poor and getting more cash....vs. solving their own issue with some creative work on sponsorships.

What’s Umass’ “value”?

UMass will have nearly $2 million in NIL/revenue share for the 2025 season and $3 million for 2026, according to sources. Those numbers are guaranteed, according to sources, which means they don't have to go out and fund raise. So we had less than 10 times the amount they spent.

What none of us realized is that to the HC Choppin means Digging. Digging deeper in deficit, digging to reach CFB bedrock, and Schiano digging deep into sports lexicon to find new job-saving excuses.

The bottomline is the number is an opinion, not a fact. And it’s well below market, so it stands out to me as erroneous. You take a discount to play at Indiana, not UMass.

Our coach still sucks and will be fired.
So 127/138 😆

That is some bad analysis. Don’t know what you actually do for a living. But your logic, analysis and estimation prowess is seriously flawed. You’ve mentioned finance in the past. I hope you are not in any role where the analysis is employing capital at risk.

That’s my rationale. End of story

I’m well employed and don’t have to justify myself to the likes of you.
