The bad officiating in the USC game last year was clearly setting up the undefeated match-up between Oregon and USC the following week. At least clearly to me.

IMHO opinion, the bad officiating we see so often goes beyond incompetence, and is well into the territory of "corrupt."

But I'm a crazy conspiracy theorist, so not everyone agrees with me.

Pretty simple rule for a punt returner who has made up his mind not to field the punt, immediately get the hell off the field.
The only reason you don't completely sprint off the field is so that you are in the vicinity of the ball if one of your teammates happens to inadvertently touch it...that way at least you're somewhat nearby to try to pounce on it. That's not to say you don't coach them to get away from the ball after they've decided not to field it...but it's an explanation for why you may not necessarily coach them to literally run away from it like they're fleeing an active shooter situation.

Well why should or would the teammate be there? lol

SEC officials have been openly cheating for years, to promote a highly ranked conference team and or gambling interests. it’s now spread to other conferences. I’ve seen some very rigged officiating over the past few years and it’s getting worse. The screw jobs in the Iowa Stare game weren’t mere accidents.

Not that I don't mind piling on Iowa State, nor do I defend them in any way, shape, or form.....but I've seen several teams try to pull punt returners into the ball, including Iowa a couple years ago.

Yes we are guilty of trying this once upon a time. I think the case on Saturday is a good reminder though of why it's not a smart thing to try to do..........
it is legal to block/push a member of the punt return team toward the loose ball. it is illegal to hold, grab, lift and smash them to the ground.

I cant ever remember iowa doing what isu just did but we have pushed and legally blocked opponents toward the ball

It was a game we won in the last couple years. Don't recall off the top of my head, which one.
Are you thinking of the late fumble ISU had in a game in Ames a few years back. In that one case our gunner was being blocked by their blocker and our guy just sort of drove the ISU player into his own punt returner who dropped the ball.

Again, our player was pushing and blocking but not holding.

No. It was much more recent than that.

It happens. Noisy stadium. Situational awareness deficit. Engaged with an opposing player and unable to fully assess what's happening behind or to the side (or hear the returner yelling to get away from it because.....noisy stadium), etc. In other words.....**** happens. :)

Look at where the middle ref is looking. WTF is he even looking at?

Honestly don't know where most of them were looking...

The ISU TD.... The ref is looking right at the play, as the Iowa defender is grabbed and pulled to the ground, as the ISU ball carrier runs by.

I know you could call holding on almost every play at the line, but when it happens in space... right where the ball carrier is.... You can't let that go

I like Blackledge and he was talking about on this play qb made good play cause Lutmer came up to defend run. Well he forgot to mention this is why Lutmer did. I remember in group text during game one person mentioned this. But reply angle tough to tell.

We played a football type game way back with 5-15 kids called "whoever has the ball runs", that was the name. And that was it chase, tackle, pile on, rip the ball free and whoever gets it next rinse and repeat. it was a blast
Smear the QU**R? Saying it is not appropriate

The rule in college is 3 yards.

You could MAYBE make a case for the guy near the 15 yard line as being "within 3 yards." It's still a huge stretch, but at least one can see where...based on angles, lighting, shadows, what have you...an official might see that as being within the rule.

However, the other guy is a solid 4 1/2 yards beyond the LOS before the ball leaves the QB's hands. At best, missing that is utter incompetence. At worst, it's complete professional dereliction.

If the player(s) went to the sidelines, then it wouldn't happen. You missed my point.
