What is the reason for Loyola's turnaround season.

Is it Holocek rejoining them or something else?

While everyone is talking about MC and BR, not many are talking about Loyola.

That had a down year but lets not pretend like we didn't know talent was still there. They were young last year.
Sure Holocek returning to HC I am sure is only a positive.
They are ranked #1 by Sun Times, #3 by Edgy....not sure your last point is true. Maybe a little overlooked in preseason but that is preseason, we have games to go off of now.

After basically the same Loyola squad gave last year's eventual 8A champ their toughest game (by far) in the playoffs, I think most people knew Loyola would be loaded this year. I suspect Loyola would still be 4-0 if last year's coaching staff had remained the same.

This reminds me of that time HF went 1-8 the year after going to the semifinals. Then they changed coaches and then credited the new coach with turning around the program 😂

Definitely wouldn't classify this as a turnaround season. They went real young last year. They had Sophomores starting at QB, RB and your #1 WR. They also had several juniors that started last season. I think they were prepared for what might happen last year. With all that youth, they gave MC their hardest game of the playoffs, it literally came down to an incomplete pass in the endzone on the last play or LA might have played for and won State last year.

MOB had them ranked #3 to start the season. Many others had them in the top 10. So they were noticed. I'm not feeling great about MC playing them week 9 especially being @ LA.

Holecek return to the helm doesn't hurt but he really never left, he's been an assistant coach there the last 2 seasons.

What's the deal with that game being at LA?

It was at LA last year as well. Shouldn't hosting alternate every year?

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not complaining! :)
Technically yes, but it has something to do with reshuffling the divisions this season. MC always seems to get hosed with this. They played at BR 3 years in a row in 22, 23, and 24.....they played at LA in back to back in 22 and 23....it was explained to me as to why it happened but it didn't make much sense.

It is an unintended consequence of the reshuffling every two years, don't love it.

Loyola needs to enjoy this year and next with Lee/McKinley - the Soph and Frosh classes are decent but not as good as I've seen in the past. LA was always rated high by Massey pre-season and even Rice was picked to lose to LWE, Loyola and MC in their pre-season predictions. LA will lose to MC and then meet them in Semis and lose to MC again.

Gosh. Maybe they should wind down the program altogether.

They played them well on consecutive weeks with a young core. I think anyone paying attention last year could see LA would be a team to be reckoned with this year.

This was a move to upset LA Karen. St Rita, BR and MC all in one season. I hope there’s a worn path across her lawn to and from Meier’s.

At this point the ongoing joke is that the LA parents are scared to leave the safety of the North Shore. Heaven forbid they venture down to Woodlawn on a Friday night.
