I'm very critical of the OL play but on Rule's long TD run, that was some of the best scheme blocking I've seen in a while.

Looks like he pulled right at the snap... big guy moved those feet... great effort!

It was bootleg action which they wanted the defense to think it was a run/ boot run. The pulling helps to do that, it fools the linebackers reading guards and gets DBs to peek into the backfield. Hit a bit quicker than they probably wanted thanks to the heat. Nice play by 10 for sure and the puller.

This was a nice call and design by Coach Holgerson. AC usually rolls, scrambles and Boots to his right- towards his throwing arm. Tough to see or throw left on this but he did. Note NU had a back release to that side too late- really tough play to execute. Real son of a gun to defend. 10 did an outstanding job on fake, boot, sidestep pressure- locate and toss perfect strike across his body. Nice hustle and block by the puller. Back was wide open for the score late as well. Squaring QB shoulders weakside and tossing to that corner on the run right is very difficult..

Designed boot look play action with puller and boot action run. Part of the original play design to make it look like boot run and to seal the wide pressure. Also throws off guard pulling readers and gets more eyes looking into backfield.

I liked it as well. Nice window dressing with the jet fake and then Lindemeyer at the h back wham blocking the unblocked down lineman- looks like a trap. Great block by 8 on the wham and second level blocks play side. Rules acceleration is very good.

That’s some pretty high level stuff you don’t typically see in college. I’ve seen that play or similar ran all the time in the NFL the last few years.

It looks like an often used nfl play but it isn’t.
What you see a bunch in the pros is split zone running play where the h back blocks the backside defensive end away from the run or run fake. . Then you often see the h back drift to the flat for a short arrow pattern pass. We have that pplay also. We ran it with little success to Fidone many many times. This block on the rule run is playside not backside- different scheme and Lindemeyer is perfect for this -great blocker.. those plays look similar but very different. Big fan of it- like you and slows down pressure. Good football. Split zone is also a man to man killer.in man if you are bumping down, it’s a mess and not much better in base man with trying to defend the h back coming across the formation and catching the ball so shallow- defenders get caught up in the wash or just can’t get to that shallow spot before the ball is caught.
