After two games, I personally am sure of very little.

Our D can look very pedestrian at times. Not great penetration up front. they did try to get the LB's a little more involved but overall, adequate against a poor opponent.

I am not as sold on the O line as some others. Penetration on some pass plays came quick and if not for a nifty footed QB who knows how to avoid pressure, it was a problem. Won't consistently work against better teams.

I will admit that after 2 games, I am not certain how good this team is. We could easily get exposed against better teams or start to improve and come along and battle with them.

Black is a weak spot in pass pro.

DR came to Oregon to be a back-up. Five-star QB's who at one point were the #1 recruit in the entire U.S. becoming a back-up in his 3rd year of college football for a team that is 1-1 and was almost 0-2?

Yes, Nebraska is partially responsible for that. DR is going the wrong direction IMO. The best he ever looked in college was his first several games at Nebraska - then regressed once Satterfield got his paws in him.

DR was making 3.5 at Nebraska. He would stay for 4.5. We declined. Instead, we brought in a baller for 2.5. DR moved on and now makes 1.5. He bet on himself. I don’t think it’s gonna play out like he hopes.

Your numbers are different than what I hear from a booster of substance. The 3.5 was supposed to be over 3 years when he first signed. Raiola’s agent has inflated the numbers.

The Good

1. Colandrea is legit. Let's pause and just say how much more FUN he is to watch then DR. This kid is a gamer, keeps plays alive, has good feet and feels like he will give us a chance even against the great teams. There will be mistakes down the road due to him pushing the envelope - but I love this kid. College QB's should be able to do a lot of things - what a better room than having the statue back there.

2. WR's improved. So many on the board flipped out about the drops last week. I get it, but think the outrage was overdone. I didn't worry about it. 1, 2, and 3 (and Luke) are a good group. Mills and Clark off the bench bring added juice. Love that Colandrea will sling it downfield to these guys, where DR was so hesitant or unwilling to do so. Barney needs to dance less, but meh. He's good and led the team tonight.

3. Athleticism and Confidence improved: I'm not referring to the domination of a lesser team here. I'm referring to a team that looked faster and more confident in their roles and the schemes than last week. Last week we looked like a pretty slow team IMO and I wondered where the athletes were. Tonight - irregardless of the opponent, we had guys flying around and playing faster than last week. I'd still like Dawson Merritt to get more snaps. ATHLETE.


The Bad:

1. 3rd quarter. Good grief. I don't want to hear excuses that the game was in the bag. That was pathetic. It's like the staff and half the players forgot to come out for the 2nd half. Flat and ugly. PTSD that Rhule teams struggle to put in 4 great quarters even against a horrible team.

2. Penalties: I still don't like it. 9 last week, 7 this week, the national average is 5.5. Not a horrible problem but a steady problem that I don't trust Rhule to clean up anytime soon. I hope he proves me wrong.

3. Rule's carries: I admit I'm reaching here. This was a fun and positive night for Nebraska football - so my only request is to fulfill my thirst for more of this kid. 8 carries is light. They'll come....soon. Nelson is a nice compliment to Rule and makes for a quality 1-2 punch.


Overall: I want to give Geep his due with the OL, but it's too early for that. Won't know until the competition is better. But the OL already looks different even against light competition.

56 points is amazing - and YES, even against a lightweight. So many Husker seasons we would score less than 30 or 35 against a team like this. Dana loves his new QB and what he can do with the playbook now.

I'm fine with both of those. The holding call on him was weak. It becomes more about the refs love finding a way to insert themselves into the game.

And I'd much rather have a guy back there returning every punt rather than fair catching every punt and playing ***** ball.

Lenhart's regression adds to my frustration with Rhule's lack of development in our program. This kid came from the elite IMG Academy and look at what happened at Nebraska - fresh out of the Acadmy he is a Freshman All American. Since then? Straight downhill.

Look at Princewill. Same thing. Freshman AA, then goes downhill. He leaves Nebraska and immediately blossoms again. Last season 13 TFL and 9.0 sacks and now highly regarded in the draft.

There are several more too - McGahee looked like a missile. Where has he gone? RVP, Nelson, DR and many more who didn't or haven't developed into what we hoped for.

We are relegated to relying on other teams developing people like Chambliss, Colandrea, Gilmer, etc to come in and rescue our team.

I was trying to watch our guys in open space to see how fast they are or aren't. I tried to completely block out the bad competition we were going against. You're totally right that this isn't a predictor for our season. Just trying to see if we have speed and people who can close on tackles well, etc. Agree we won't know until B10 play.

Seems obvious to me why these specific position groups have struggled. Rhule hired terrible yes men coaches, who were/ still are (satterfield) safe from the consequence of not earning their paycheck. The offensive line is markedly improved because the guy coaching that unit this year is hungry and really gives a **** about his career. Still not perfect or even great, but noticeably better. The guy he replaced didn't give a **** because Rhule made him untouchable to get his nephew to quarterback the team. The jury is still out on this current dline coach because I feel they did him no favors with player acquisition in the offseason and the guys returning are all having to relearn defense from a coordinator who runs something entirely different (at least he knows what he is doing). I feel d-line coach needs a few games grace period to see if he can correct the performance or if he makes any adjustments in personnel.

Jesus, what a bunch of yentas. Matt Rhule bad guy. No, he is just a coach that took over a program with a roster that went 3-9 and 4-8 the year before he got there. A program that had reached rock bottom with signs of breaking out the tunneling equipment before Frost and Chins were let go. Rhule has made some good decisions (hiring Tony White) and some bad decisions (trying to retain the White system and promoting a guy who wanted to be a DC, but wasn't cut out to be one). He's had a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation (the Raiola family). Had Dylan grown up, decided to vary his game and actually play like Mahomes instead of just looking like him, that situation likely would have worked out.
Rhules in his fourth year with his roster. He has a tough schedule in front of him. But he has a better Oline and a QB that is much, much more suited to the type of game Dana Holgerson likes to call.
I'll be watching Saturday and hope to like what I see. I won't be thinking about the Rhule soap opera being spun up on the board.

in hindsight you are totally right IMO. At the time it was a tough call - I wavered back and forth on which direction to go. Now it seems to me the OSU guy would've been a stud and we could've cut Uncle incompetent from OL coach - that to me was the baggage that made the DR deal too much.

Maybe other teams can get involved in this portal thing you mention and maybe they will improve as well? Mr Michigan you’re an insufferable bitchboy . You seem like the male cheerleader or student manager type who thinks this gives him some ownership of the teams he roots for.
