Somebody help me out. Why do some OC`s stay in the booth(see the field & plays develop?) but others like Briles are on the sideline.

Obviously you can see the field better, the plays develop, the defensive alignments, etc. from the booth. What is gained from being on the sideline other than I`m sure it must help with communication, teaching players maybe easier? Why do some prefer one over the other for those who know more football than me, which isn`t difficult. I`m not being critical of either, just trying to understand what the pros/cons are & how they might decide which way to go.

Some like the birds eye view and seeing the whole field at once. Others think you can't replace the one-on-one interaction on the sideline.

It's not like we don't have anyone in the booth.

In the booth you have the Birds Eye view and it’s easier to see what the defense is doing and spot patterns. In the sideline you have direct access to the players and can coach them mid-game on what you want them to do.

Well, yes, of course even the OC's on the sideline are on the headset with assistants in the booth.

But to why an OC may be on the sideline vs booth is purely personal preference.

I've often questioned the "booth vs. sidelines" decision. However, Spurrier was an unbelievable play-caller from the sidelines -- he is my gold standard!

Sideline OC may have a lot of faith receiving good info from the assistants in the booth. Those guys aren't just Madden26 players

In another decade, Augmented reality glasses (or whatever) will make it a moo point.

Can have bird's eye view and be on the sidelines simultaneously. Could actually do it right now, today, but it's like Bitcoin.... will take time for people to come around.

FWIW, I was screaming at people I loved and cared about to buy as many bitcoin as they could when it was at $500 - no one listened. Whatever.
