ISU has had a slow build up the Illinois football ranks this season. St. Francis, Western, and now NIU. Would be fitting if they had a game with UofI next week

Had to use a free 7 day trial for the Mountain West App (MW+) on Amazon Prime to get this game. Either that or find a local watering hole. Just a heads up.

1983 was my favorite NIU team!!! Beat Kansas in the regular season then won the California Bowl!!! Great year 83. Augustana won the D3 title & SIU cruised in the 1AA title game.
Lots of goalposts wound up in the Stevenson lagoon that year. :)

P.S. Why would Lynch ever leave MC. I could see him being there more years than Lenti. Kinda like Inserra following up Hopkins at Maine South.

Because he's young, driven, and a former top level athlete with an ego. He'll get bored of walking through high school playoffs and want a challenge. Plus, he's been dinged for illegal practices and there will always be rumors about recruiting so why not go to the next level where he can recruit the entire country.

One difference about these two schools.

NIU - many students go home for the weekends which I think is weird.

ISU - Not many students leave for home on the weekends but stay for the weekends and have fun.

NIU doesn't have millions to offer a head coach. Current coach is getting $400k.
He is an interim Hammock averaged $650 and topped out above $700k while being in the MAC, being in the Mountain West coaches generally making $1.5- $3 million I would imagine NIU would be paying in the $2-3 million or more since that’s what will be required to have a successful program.

$2-$3 mil seems like a stretch. I agree that's what would be needed for a successful program, but I don't see NIU throwing that kind of money around, unfortunately.

Dan Mullens at UNLV is getting $3.5 mil this year and that is a record for any sport in MW conference history and more than double the next football coach. The average in the MW is $1.3 mil and other than the NIU coach, Timmy Chang at Hawaii is at the bottom of the list at $755k. Sadly, I think an NIU coach will be paid closer to that than $3 mil.

Taking out Mullens and the NIU coach as outliers the average of the remaining coaches is right at $1 mil

Funny I looked up 2025 and all the guys making more moved to the PAC12 in the realignment. I don’t think NIU has the funds to compete at that level.

The first thing I check out our the schedules of the "power" conferences... Too many cupcakes and that's shameful... But I do like what Illinois St has schedule... Home state teams... But will those games help them for the playoffs... Not sure if it was $$$ driven or not. I also liked that SIU played a rising power in West Florida...

ISU plays in the toughest FCS conference in the country. There's a reason the Redbirds went on a run they did last year. They will be battle tested and ready to destroy teams from lesser conferences just like last season.

In the current FCS rankings, they will play home games against No. 3 South Dakota State and No. 12 South Dakota with road games at No. 6 North Dakota, No. 9 Youngstown State and No. 25 Southern Illinois.
