How many coaches are willing to coach at the D-III level to maintain that integrity?

Actually, I was wondering about coaching high school ball. He's a gazillionaire even without the buyout which would set him and kids and grandkids and great grandkids up for life. Go coach high school ball where player retention and transfers aren't much of an issue at all. You get to actually develop players.

I could see him going to an FCS program or even a G6 program. He certainly won't need the money and lower level college football would let him coach the way he wants to. There would also be much less pressure on him to win big if he coached at a school like Georgia Southern or App State.

Even at the D-III level, there's some recruiting going on, even though athletics grant-in-aids are prohibited.

A few years ago he would have been one of the hottest commodities in the game, but I can't see a P4 program hiring him given his philosophical clash with the modern game. He simply does not want to play the NIL and portal game the way it has to be played. I could see G5 hiring him for name recognition but doubt he'd want to deal with having his roster picked clean of talent every off-season.

Gonna be 1-5 after that. No way they win any. 51 million buyout, so he's not going anywhere unless someone with really deep pockets steps up.
They have enough athleticism to beat Virginia and maybe Louisville, but that's not saying they will beat either.

Yeah, I cannot see Clemson coughing up that kind of dough. Especially to fire a coach who has won them 2 national titles.
The school's in a lot of debt to the extent that cost-cutting is underway. Now I know that athletics is supposed to be self-sustaining, but I can't see them being able to absorb this.

Ironically, the buyouts were borne out of a reality in which ADs caved too quickly to the fans and fired a coach for having a down season or two or not producing instantly fantastic results. Fans kind of brought it on themselves.
I think it is more to do with AD's caving to the agents rather than AD's caving to fans.

Well, yeah, the AD and BOT has to agree to it, but the idea for buyouts largely grew out of a need to protect coaches from jumpy fan bases/adminstrations.
