Will it be realistic to "unplug" when this inevitably runs amok? I guess it just depends one what gets hacked first and what real damage it causes? Hopefully the event will be a wake up call rather than permanent irreversible damage.

Some of you have probably heard of Wendell Berry, he passed away recently at age 93. I saw this passage of his several months ago and it has really stuck with me:

“It is easy for me to imagine that the next great division of the world will be between people who wish to live as creatures and people who wish to live as machines.”

I'm having trouble understanding how exactly super intelligence is going to bridge the cyber/physical divide. Not that they couldn't throw us into a great depression by shutting down our grid and banking system, but as far as existential threats, the only apparent risk seems to be hacking into missile systems and launching them. I'm hoping those are physically isolated? Is that naive and incorrect?

It’s already stored the satellite images of you burying them and planned an autonomous vehicle assault on your residence when it’s deemed appropriate.
Somebody with Meta half jokingly told me a few months ago that AI already knows every single thing about every US citizen except where the stockpiles of private firearms are located.

If AI automates everything its claimed to soon automate, hundreds of millions(billions?) of people will be out of work across the country, continent, and world.
Some not yet identified jobs will be created as a result, but obviously not enough.

So how does everything get paid for if so many are poorer?
If people arent buying enough stuff for companies to justify all the expenses that AI brings, then how is all the computing and storage paid for?

Is the answer a Universal Basic Income that is set at a comfortable level for all? How the balls would that be paid for too?

Is the answer fewer people exist?...that isnt how our economy, or the global economy, works. We need MORE people for everything to grow.

I believe Elon recently said there is a better than 10% chance AI will wipe out civilization

This is a 2hr 15min podcast that released an hour ago.
You listening to it on 3x speed?

Joke aside, I have a couple hours of windshield time this afternoon and will definitely give this a listen.

I don't worry about an AI going rogue. I'm more concerned about some nutcase using AI to develop a bioweapon, hacking the power grid, or hacking the financial system. This is going to be an easy to procure and use WMD in the hands of the wrong people.

It’s an AI guy who worked for OpenAI and now works to understand and manage the threats. That took 2 minutes of research and another 1 to link it.

Watch it or don’t, your choice obviously.

I feel much better. Now if I can only just remember the passcode to my gun safe...
